Oh my goodness, I have a ways to go then, as far as the quest chain goes. Thanks for the info! :]

Regarding #2, the symbol I was looking at apparently indicates that people are in the Novice Network. ^_^

Yet another question: Is it possible to increase your mounted movement speed (via items) more than once? That is, I already bought the riding maps from the moogle event. If I now buy riding maps with allied seals, can I further boost my mounted movement speed? Or are these types of items "once only"?

I know there are other ways that your mounted movement speed increases, though I'm not exactly clear on them. I know some speed increases are quest-chain related.

Each region only has one riding map to increase mount speed. The other increases are via quest completion.l

Not gonna answer any triple triad questions as does have been done by other users, but I’ll say that you shouldn’t even bother with TT because it’s so bloody bad outside of tournaments and player matches.

Seriously, there are horror stories of people spending 8 hours on a single NPC for one card, and after putting myself through some pretty excruciating things I can 100% believe that is possible, and that type of grinding SUCKS. The reason why grinding for that perfect party in, lets say a JRPG, is fun is because your party members constantly get more powerful, so you constantly get closer to a perfect party, what do you get in FF14? A iota of MGP and possibly a duplicate, that’s it, and only certain TT fanatics are willing to put themselves through that crap. So if you wanna go out of your way to get all the cards for a tournament or just as a collection, then you will have to grind NPC’s for hours, and some of these NPC’s are a right pain in the butt. Let’s take the Serpent commander, he has multiple 4* and I think even 5* cards while you can only have one, plus one of the rules is I think plus, the NPC can use it to its advantage 100% of the time catching plus combos that you or another player might miss, not to mention his low drop rate for Kan-E, and that’s just one NPC, there’s plenty who have BS decks and rule sets who’s names slip my mind.

Yeah, as Urth says. There are 2 speed increases for most areas. One from a map, one from a quest(these are all in the MSQ line if memory serves). I havent tried to test it, but the game might not even let you buy the map a 2nd time. Its a unique item that you already have(albeit, used).

As for Triad, its optional. If you enjoy it, play. If you dont, then dont. Is getting all the cards a grind? Yeah, but so is getting all the music scrolls, all the mounts, all the minions, all the best glamour options, all the classes leveled. Basically anything that starts with "all" is basically guaranteed to be grindy. Getting a good enough deck to challenge any NPC in the game isnt really that grindy. You need to get enough total cards to get to deck level 3, you need one or two good 5-star cards, and you need a handful of 3-stars to fill out your collection. Optionally, you can also make sure you have a good ascension hand and a good reverse hand(you can easily make invincible hands for both these special rulesets if you decide to). You can build plus/same compliance into any of these hands too, or make it its own set. You can save 5 sets

I'm fine with not having all of the Triple Triad cards. Right now I'm just working on getting enough that I can build a third-level deck. It is good to know that the drop rate on some cards is really low though. I've played 20 games in a row and not gotten the missing card. I wondered if I should keep grinding, but it wasn't fun anymore, so I decided to stop for that night. Now I know that I shouldn't really try grinding - it won't be fun and it probably won't bear much fruit. I'll just play when it strikes my fancy, when I see a challenger out and about. I do have fun playing, as long as I don't take it too seriously, and move on after a few games. I think it's neat that such robust mini-games are included in FFXIV, really fun!

I bought three sets of level 70 healer gear in Kugane so I could apply different glamours to my Astrologian, Scholar, and White Mage. All three sets were purchased from the same vendor, and are identical (aside from being glamoured). None of them have materia melded to them. So why does the Recommended Gear button keep wanting me to equip a different set of identical gear?

The recommended gear function isnt very smart. It sometimes recommends gear for the wrong class as long as its higher level. If youre using gear sets, its supposed to remember which exact pieces go to which set so this shouldnt be an issue. Gear sets are assigned through the character menu. The button next to the recommend button(looks like a page) is the gear set button. It opens or closes the gear set tab on your character menu. With the tab open, press the plus button at the top and it will create a set out of your currently equipped gear(weapon, job stone, the whole package), giving you the option to name it. Then you can quick swap to that set of gear from this tab at any time you can switch jobs. Creating a set for each class you play is a really good idea. Then later when you get gear upgrades, you can equip them while wearing the rest of the set and use the swapped-arrows(up/down) button right next to the sets tab and it will update the current set with whatever gear changes youve made. The game lets you save a handful of sets more then you have classes unlocked, so you can potentially do a few special-glamour looks too.

I make extensive use of the gear set feature, for sure. I have macros set up to swap gear set, swap UI preset, and summon a minion. The Gear Set feature does remember which piece I have equipped, so I haven't had trouble actually swapping classes. It was just interesting to me that the Recommended Gear feature wouldn't recognize that I was already wearing the suggested gear. Must be a bug. :] Luckily I don't have to equip upgraded gear very often past level 50!

I believe the recommended gear button has some sort of "tiebreaker" code in it specifically so if you have several identical pieces on accident (Or at least identical in terms of stats it checks), it consistently picks the same one so all your classes that use it just have the one and you know you can safely discard the others. Your case is just an extreme edge case where you WANT to use several pieces of identical gear... although I would argue that it'd be more effective to just make glamour plates for the looks you want on each class and just change between healers in town so you can change glamour plate as well. That's what I do for a few of my classes.
