One shot mechanics in Normal Raids

    Good Morning Everyone,

So right now I'm stuck on E7. Just watched a guide on it as well before entering. The raid is fun minus one mechanic and its just frustrating and not fun for normal.

The raid does fine till we get to the light/dark phase combined with the portals. But when the 2nd wave comes through the portal, half of the raid is dead and we can never recover. The group is usually saying they cannot react fast enough while trying to think where they need to stand for the light/dark wave to come through the portals.

It's a little frustrating at this point as I just spend 60 minutes wiping on it. I don't understand why a one shot mechanic is even put into this. Why couldn't it be a vul stack like it normally is when a mechanic is not done correctly.

I can see one shot mechanics in Savage but this is the first time I can remember being frustrated over a normal raid.

I'm thinking once I finally clear this to just avoid the fight all together.

Thank you for taking to time to listen to my rant. I would like to personally see it change from a one shot mechanic to a vul stack but how do you feel about it? Seems too punishing for a fast reacting mechanic.

There's precedence for one-shot mechanics in normal. Off the top of my head, Exdeath, Kefka, and Omega M/F could blow you off the map to certain doom. Titan's trial can have you fall off the edge and not be able to be raised so if anything, things have gotten better. Once more people realize how the mechanic works, it will be easier. We're only in the first week and it's new. If all content including normal raid could be face-rolled immediately with no consequence, the game wouldn't be very fun or engaging.

SE has decided that they want the playerbase to try to improve itself nothing says get the mechanic right like a one shot mechanic.

This is optional content to boot so they tend to up mechanics more here.

It is week 1 so wiping is expected.

To help understand it you have to pay attention to your debuff and stand in the intersection of where you will get hit by the opposite colour 1st then the same colour second. So say you got the black debuff stand in front of the white birds, check which portal black ones are entering and stand in the square where that portal colour would spit it out, moving up/down in front of the white as needed.

Being normal mode feel free to stop dps here to get the pattern down. It is recoverable with a few deaths just gotta hope it isn't all your rezzers that die.

It also may well stop being a one shot mechanic once people have more gear.

Iirc, you just want to be horizontally in-line with the portal color that is opposite of the one that you're vertically in-line with.

    >>>>>BOSS<<<<
    *************
    |---|---|---|---R
    |---|---|---|---P
    |---|---X---|---R
    |---|---|---|---P
    ***R**P******

So in this instance, you (the X) get hit by the vertical beam that goes into the purple portal, then the horizontal beam coming out of the red portal will be the opposite color.

I personally really like mechanics like that one, as well as the portal-like mechanic in E8. I like to have at least a little challenge in normal since I don't really have an interest in spending much time on Savage, but to each their own!

I think i'm having problem is the level of complexity with the mechanic that is also a one shot. Kefka, all you had to do was not be near an edge. simple enough. Where this is changing colors which is random and checking to see which color is coming out of what portal and making sure you are switching to the right color when the portal beam comes out. All in a matter of seconds. Maybe i'm overthinking it.

Currently in my 2nd group for today and we just initiated vote abandon.

I think the stress is making it seem like you have less time than you actually do. The few times I've run the fight it gave us plenty of time to figure out portals.

I have trouble with the blue/red portals. I've looked for a guide but don't seem to be able to find one just yet. Anyone with a link to a good one? I need to heal it with one of my alts and I don't like doing that if I can't deal with mechanics before going. I've been dps'ing up to now.

Unless there are extra complexities I haven't noticed yet (having only cleared it tonight), figuring out where to stand for the portals + dark/light is a two-step process.

    1. Portals appear - pick a square either side of the centre; it doesn't matter which for now. Make sure the portal behind you and to the side are different colours.

    2. Dark/light beams appear - are you on the right side? If not, move diagonally to another square on the other side of the centre line.

The key element is to have different-coloured portals to your side and back.

That fight was definitely one of the trickier ones... Hardest part for me was predicting the few steps ahead you kinda need to when you have the dark/light on top of the portals. Because iirc... You need to look at your color, and match the opposite color bird swarm. But also look at what portal your birds are going into, because your color is going to swap and you'll need to be on the OPPOSITE portal color to avoid the damage.

...I'm gonna need to do it again to make sure I actually have that right but it took like three wipes for me to be like OH that's what's happening.

I actually really like the fight though, even if it hurt my head a little the first time through maybe it could be more forgiving, but I think it'll be a little easier once more people see and learn it. And as more guides get put together.
