Fellow crafters, please list out your suggestions here

    Dear fellow crafters,

I am currently drafting a mega thread (in the form of a formal request letter) to request for better challenges and better rewards (Please note that this will not affect those who love easy crafting). I will include a list of suggestions from all of you in the letter. To do that, I need your help to give me your suggestions here. This will help me to gather and consolidate all your ideas, and also help the developers to view all ideas in a single letter for their consideration. Below this post, please list out your suggestions IN POINT FORM.

Thanks very much for your help.

    Best regards,
    Caimie

P.S. Please note that not all suggestions will be considered by the developers.

EDIT: The mega thread is now here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-Megathread%29
You may leave your comments there instead.

Thank you so much for this long awaited thread and the thread to come soon in the future! (Not sure what you mean by point form, but I assume you mean bullet point. If it’s incorrect please let me know and I’ll change it.)

    CHALLENGES:

    • (This suggestion is basically what Caimie suggested in her earlier posts. Which I’m sure her megathread will talk about.) When it comes to certain recipes, make proper and skillful use of crafting CONDITIONS. For example, you may only use Delicate synthesis and Prudent Touch during a Good, and a rapid synthesis or a Byregot’s Blessing during a Excellent. This will make macros not optimal.

    • Make crafting mats require actual effort, time, and grinding so that the value of the end result item becomes higher. You guys have it currently set up, so that the current mats are complete trash, essentially. They hardly require any effort or grind to acquire, which, in turn, makes it to where the final profit of recipes are low, and constantly tanking. Because players are constantly spamming macros and flooding the market with things that require little effort to obtain. Make things require effort again. Like Luminous Fiber that was used to make Ironworks crafting gear.

    • Now, let’s talk Master Book Recipes. These types of starred recipes should absolutely not be as easy as you’ve made them. Maybe make every single recipe in the game easy and not require HQ mats, but for Master recipes, they should require more thought and a bit of skill.

    • Or, if you’d rather not have any Master recipes hard, what you could do, is introduce an entirely different series of Crafter Books, maybe call them “GrandMaster Books”, and have these recipes REQUIRE you to think carefully about each crafting step, taking advantage of conditions. And of course, have these recipes sellable through the marketboard. As you know, vet and/or hardcore crafters like challenges, but also to be rewarded accordingly for said challenges. This is where we talk about challenge rewards next.

    CHALLENGE REWARDS:

    • Vet and hardcore crafters, as you know, like rewards to show off their hard work and skill. What most of us really enjoyed, though don’t admit, is the reward of selling such difficult crafts on the marketboard, and have them sell at high prices. Because those high prices show that these players have done something very special, and as such, should be able to charge for such a desirable item. In other words, high amounts of Gil should be some sort of reward.

    • Other rewards....let’s take a look at Heavensward’s favor gear. They were each a cool glam, but also high stat gear/tools to show others that these crafters mean business, and worked hard for what they have. These could also be a result of the above mentioned “GrandMaster Recipes”. Gil, Gear, Tools, and RNG all benefit crafters, and you know what, there is nothing wrong with that. What DOESNT benefit crafters, are: glamour, mounts, minions, and titles.

    • Now, if these glamours, mounts, minions, and titles were exceptionally difficult, time consuming, took weeks or months to unlock, them yes, you could argue these are adequate rewards for these crafters. But I feel as if these are unnecessary for giving crafters, and gear, tools, Gil are much more efficient and practical.

Thank you for this thread, Caimie, seriously. Let’s hope sometime during 5.0 - 5.5 or 6.0 they listen and implement what we suggest to them.

i pretty much agree with nandrolone and caimie in terms of crafting but...make gatherers more important ...that is my only concern... people like me aren’t really big crafters but like to gather a lot ..

gatherers were only important during heavenward when crafters would pay loads of Gil for gatherers to gather favor items for them. it was like a dream for gatherers, and that unfortunately was the last time we ever had our time to shine and earn a lot of gil like crafters did...

you guys making things too easy, overly accessible, etc, just makes the crafting and gathering content and rotations in this game boring and not fun, or just depressing. make things challenging, make things interesting again like in heavensward. i honestly cant remember the last time gatherers were important like in heavensward.

Wouldn't it be better to wait until after Ishgard is released to see what Expert recipes are like so that content can be included in the feedback? They've repeatedly said that will be the content intended to challenge crafting veterans this expansion, not Master recipes.

No, it wouldn’t be better to wait. Do you have any idea how many times we have been told “to wait”? More than you can count, lol. Also, that’s not really the point of this thread. The point of this is to finally get certain things we have wanted to say off our chest that need to be said and heard, instead of being buried under “crafting was never hard” posts, or players constantly arguing.

Also, these expert recipes aren’t really worth the reward we get out of it. Please read my above post.

I have waited over 5 years... Even the Crafter of Light has become the Crafter of Darkness...

Same here Causal and hardcore crafters each need their own end game for crafting. SE said they dont want Master recipes being really hard, well give hardcore crafters harder recipes then. If its going to be Expert then make the rewards better listen too Nandrolone and others about what they feel are worthy rewards. If not Expert recipes then Grandmaster recipes like Nandrolone has suggested. I got a suggestion of my own that I would like too post here but I got to work it out all the details before I post it.

I'll be honest, I believe crafting currently is very similar to how it was in ARR as far as difficulty goes. Back then we had very straightforward "rotations" and priorities and recipes were quite fast to complete.

There are two major differences however:

    1) In ARR getting the best gear was a challenge. Primary tools, in particular, were our endgame: even with max melds, crafting the mats required for them took extensive knowledge of the skills we had and a little bit of luck as well. And it wasn't after we got those shiny tools that we could trivialize recipes with quick macros. By comparison, gearing now is much easier and quicker;

    2) Leveling all crafters was pretty much required, making the way to reliable endgame crafting relatively longer and more expensive since we didn't have many of the cheap ways we have now to level our crafters. This barrier to entry is now gone and as a result endgame crafting is much less profitable because of the increased competition.

At the end of the day, I think that going back to the old ways of making the best tools harder to obtain would really help giving a better sense of accomplishment. And master recipes should be macroable only after you got those tools.

    Honestly, I don't know.

I'd like to see them revert to pre-nerf Ala Mhigan difficulty at the very least on both DoH and DoL, bulk up the toolkit significantly, reduce the scrip gain for certain collectibles and revert that 75% quality from all HQ mats thing. But that will never happen. People hate having things taken away. Make something easier, people adjust. Make crafting require effort again and the casual players who are used to turbo leveling to 80 with Ishgard, buying a cheap facet set and churning out Master Recipes will cause an uproar.

Sadly I really think the damage is done. I'd love to be proven wrong though and this thread has my full support, I hope it gets us somewhere.

Also I'd like to see those glowing Primal glam tools finally, both OH and MH, and for over-melding to skip the animation, with a repeat button for helping others.
