Lately I, and many other people I know, have gotten some sketchy /tells. The sender promises you 750 million gil, if you go to youtube and type "gil (three numbers)" mine was 773 this time but it seems to periodically change. Then follow his link to what he claims are the forums.

There you're lead to a fake ffxiv forum website, and a prompt to log in. Considering that I've gotten the message 3 times from 3 different characters, it seems the scammer is already successful.

So, this is a head's up to everyone! Please watch out for that message. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is. And, especially if someone prompts you to click a link, please check the URL before typing out sensitive information.

I've been seeing this on balmung very regularly. near-daily when I hang out there. They shout they are giving away millions of gil if you go to the youtube channel to get started. So it seems like its cross-data-center

I dunno, not to be That Guy™ but if anyone falls for such an obvious scam they kind of deserve what comes next. After a point there's just no helping people's stupidity and you need to let them touch that hot stove.

No one deserves to be taken advantage of by someone else. And not everyone who plays ffxiv is a tech expert familiar with scams. A youtuber/streamer giving away gil is a believable thing in an age when people pull stunts to get audiences online. We shouldn't be blaming victims.
