They probably hoped this would be good/fun content for Fishers, and wouldn't be completely swamped with achievement hunters.
Lock outs preferable, like when you leave a dungeon you get penalised for 30m. Let's not ruin the 15 minute grace period for those of us who don't abuse it.
I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.

Personally, I think ocean fishing should be overhauled.
1) Make a currency like anything else, so with enough currency you can buy XYZ. Then we don’t care if anyone else is fishing or not aside from less chance to proc rainbows.
2) Why don’t the boats move... (as in not parking at a location, but sailing through) that was a huge thing in FFXI. Just taking in the sights as the ship moved was great, relaxing fun.
3) Add other social things on the ship, so people can fish..but also can do other things to make friends, socialize. I was in a group randomly that just hung out for the trip and kinda gave up on fishing partway through because it was impossible to get 10k.. it was a lot of fun to just chat- basically forgot to fish for a good chunk.

They should’ve built in a fishing simulator into the game. Like the first person fishing games out there. We have a first person mode and first person shooting mode. Why not combine them? Allow us to cast out rods and see underwater the types of fish that swim around as they bite our bait. Much more enjoyable to see in my opinion.

People take casual content WAY too seriously... because of a mount?
Figure your life out... really... you need some reality check...

I like ocean fishing. There is definitely a bit depth that makes you go better with time and knowledge, and you get higher points even during bad windows then.
I see how the 2h lockout is maybe not optimal for people who barely can play the game. Especially forming groups to do special things and having to abandon them after just 1 try feelsbad. But I can see it being less popular in the future, making it hard to find 24man groups during random times. I wish PvP would get the same treatment tbh.
On the other hand the spectral spawn rate shouldn't be changed. It is required for them to not spawn if you want to go for other achievements. A way to ease the achievement and make it less rng dependend on spectral currents would be to increase the points by normal fish by by 50-100%. They give extremely low points atm, almost not worth the trouble if you compare it to spectral fish.
They would have to fix the timer as well a little. Some fish take longer than 30s to bite at the end, even if you reel them back in you can still lose the points from them, if the loading already starts for next area.
It also would be nice to be able to change baits when fishing period ended and before fishing period starts.
Would also be nice to see a recap in the summary window about all the fish your partymember caught, would make it possible to aim for the missing 10th one more effeciently. Or it would be easier to check how many of one fish you still need for the achievement.
Social aspect is lacking if people are forced to fish nonstop on a time limit. Maybe getting a set amount of baits per area could make it more relaxing if the time limit allows it. There needs to be a dynamic that allows for chatting.
At least on Aether, this isn't the first time I've seen it openly advertised as such, too, in PF. Definitely a lockout should be in place - the 24 hour one I think is a lot much, but at least the standard one as if it were any other duty.

The standard deserter penalty is fine since that will prevent them from queuing for another boat until the next window opens. They might as well stay since it's still possible to get the mount with only 2 currents if you get enough points and bonuses from rare catches.
No need for a daily lockout. It's fun side content to do with friends (our FC has been doing it together) and a lockout would discourage that. Yellow scrip rewards aren't any better for the time spent than normal collectible gathering and worse when it comes to white scrip even if you have an amazing string of luck on the rares.

It's hilarious, since currents can happen even near the end of a spots life. I had someone leave when we still had 2:45 left on the clock, and they dragged two other people along with them. A spectral current ended up popping 20 seconds later, and we got a second spectral current at the third spot. It's entirely possible to get the mount with two currents if you know what to do.
So thank you, Worst Waifu from Cactaur server. For attempting to screw the rest of us over by leaving, and missing a double current boat anyway. I hope the boat you ending up requeueing on had no currents at all and you got 1200 score.
