Dragoons and the whole Estinien thing from a late starter.

Here's the thing. I ran through the MSQ first with a WHM. Fine. I'm now starting out again as a DRG and have a question about my relationship with Estinien. When I was a WHM Estinien was just a dude who showed up, acting like a bit of a dick, and ended up being pivotal to the story. Obviously now my DRG character has a bit of history with him early on, as well as the eye. How does the MSQ handle this fairly fundemental dichotomy, or do I just run through the MSQ exactly the same apparently suffering amnesia? Currently I have just run the lvl45 job quest and I guess more stuff will happen in the chain before I meet up with Estinien in Ishgard in the MSQ but it seems that there is a risk of continuity issues coming up? To add to the confusion I have a server xp boost running on my preferred server and so although I'm level 46 I'm only at something like level 30 in the MSQ and Ishgard seems a way off.

All Jobs quest before level 50 is done, lore wise, before Heavensward.
So, it's more or less like a flashback, it's the first time you are meeting Estinien in the DRG job quests.

And you will be recognized as the Warrior of Light as well as the Second Azur Dragoon if you do Heavensward as a DRG.

This is generally the formula they use when incorporating optional content into the MSQ and determining a timeline for quests. All ARR content is canonically done before HW, all HW before SB, and all SB before ShB, and if you complete them later, then events simply 'slot into place' for your character's story.

I might be wrong but as someone who did the HW msq as a dragoon. I believe you get a bit of extra dialog as well.

If you're already 50 DRG when you start the HW MSQ you get a few extra bits of dialog. Nothing major and the story itself doesn't change, but at least it acknowledges that you and Estinien already know each other and that you already know about the eye and stuff.

As others have pointed out, you get extra dialogue and Estinien of course recognizes you the first time he pops up in the MSQ during the meeting with Aymeric.

Other than that, nothing really changes and I was a bit disappointed. But that would have required a ton of work to put in a lot of extra stuff for DRGs.
