Still having this issue.
"An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.(6d)"


I tryed to Reinstall.
I tryed to Reinstall graphic card + driver + changing my graphic card to an older version from (new just got it today) RTX2070 to (old) GTX1060. No change same error.
I disabled hardware acceleration.
I disabled all kind of overlay.
I dont have Mactype.
I tryed to launch it via GeForce, directly via the game folder, nothing changed.
I tryed to run as admin, (Steam, game folder etc.) No change.
I tryed to run on different graphic setting, resolutions etc. nothing worked.
I tryed to run it without real graphic card installed, No change.
I disabled Firewall and Anti Malware bytes. No change.
I tryed to change System language, No change.
I tryed to use the Old Launcher. No change.
I tryed to change DirectX. No change.
I tryed to turn of all OC devices. No change.
I removed all unnecessary USB, etc. Kabels. No change.



Im getting frustrated...


Okay, I went to the game folder > game > ffxiv.exe / ffxiv_dx11.exe. Deactivated full screen optimization + Run as admin.

Now i get a new Error...
"unable to complete version update 30426 19900 740"

And so i tryed to fix this error, but YEAH. NOTHING WORKS.

I tryed to change my games > FF14 update some thing to 1; delete download, DELETE THE WHOLE F Folder. Nothing works.

I tryed to clean start up. No change.
I have Windows and FF14 on the same driver. No change.
I turned off Full screen optimization. No change
I tryed "Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs." No change.


Creating a new Windows Acc. FF14 becomes playable again, for what ever reason?!
Probably, completely reinstalling the PC, would also work, i think.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? I would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
5) Installing Windows and FINAL FANTASY XIV to the same drive.

I am having the same exact issue. It's frustrating, I can't figure out the root cause either. Right when patch 5.2 hit is when it started for me.

Edit: I did find that starting the game through the G-Force Experience App made it work.

Non of those worked. + I mentioned some them before in the list of all troubleshooting i have done.

So from what I've been able to see across these threads (and folks in my FC having the 6d problem), there's three possible causes/solutions.

1. Issue with the launcher permissions. In this case, swapping the launcher to use the old-style launcher (which can be done from the launcher's settings menu) will fix things for people.
2. Issue with computer erroneously not using discrete graphics. Most common on gaming laptops. In this case, you can fix it by launching from GeForce Experience (to force things into High Performance mode) or by tweaking the game executable's settings in the NVidia display control panel.
3. Issue with security APIs when Windows UAC is disabled. For folks who've turned off Windows UAC (the screen that pops up when something wants to do a secure/administrator operation), it seems some API coughs up a hairball when FFXIV tries to get permissions it wants. The fixes here are to either a) re-enable UAC, or b) make a new account with UAC still enabled and play on that account.

Since you mentioned making a new Windows account fixed things, I'm guessing #3 is the one biting you.

I will try UAC, although I already have it enabled. I'd echo the experiences of others that these issues began after 5.2 and never before. I've done a reinstall, though I will try installing it on C Drive. The odd thing is how unsolicited it is:

1) I was able to play through a lot of maps and the fairy dungeon with the gates from the Zonurskin maps. Lots of action, the perfect opportunity for a crash because of GPU heat. It never crashed. Hours later when I went to Rak'Tika and teleported to the central aetherite I had a crash. Then I have rejoined and it's no problems so far for about a minute. So it should not be hardware overheating.

I'll try that old launcher, though in my case it's been randomly ingame rather than at launch.

i have personally tried everything. spent pretty much non-stop on this. the only solution i have found is making a new Windows user account. but the account only ever works once. it has been necessary for me to create a new user account each and every time wanting to play the game. what makes matters worse, is that Square Enix isn't even acknowledging this issue in any ones post. surely they are aware of the error, but still do nothing to resolve it. it doesn't make sense... it is as if they don't want people to play the game.

If the error is appearing in Japanese, or just in general, I will say, go and try to change your region for non-unicode programs in clock and region settings, region, then administrative. Changing it back from Japanese, to Irish (My region) fixed it for me. Dunno if this helps others, but it was one fix.
