Same problem as OP. Tried everything, no fix. Wish I knew what 6d even stood for.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums,
Fryfor, if you are experiencing the same issue, please create a new forum post with a System Report for assistance along with any previously attempted troubleshooting. Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
RiriRilu, unfortunately, the device information in the provided System Report does indicate that the main graphics card being used does not meet the minimum specifications required to play FINAL FANTASY XIV. We do not support Intel graphics cards for FINAL FANTASY XIV. However, we did notice there is an NVIDIA device that is not listed as the primary graphics card. This suggests that you may be running NVIDIA Optimus which controls whether your system utilizes the base Intel card or the NVIDIA card to conserve battery power. Please try disabling NVIDIA Optimus and see if the error persists. For instructions on how to force the NVIDIA card to be enabled or to disable Optimus, please contact NVIDIA Support.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
@Rhaervis: I am unsure what Nvidia Optimus is as it is not installed on my computer. Are you perhaps referring to the Nvidia Control Panel? If so, I have tried launching with the exe program set to Nvidia card as well as changing the global settings to run with the Nvidia card. Neither has shown any changes in regards to the 6d error though. Would you happen to have any further suggestions?
Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Unfortunately, we do not have any further troubleshooting to try. As this point, we would recommend posting a Bug Report in the "In-game Bugs" forum so that our team may look into the issue further. That way this matter would be escalated to the appropriate team.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
@Rhaervis: Thank you. I have posted in the "In-game Bugs" section as you have suggested. I hope they are able to resolve the problem soon..![]()
Run FFXIV from GeForce Experience as a workaround to the 6d error.
Optimus isn't a thing you install separately; it's a feature of Nvidia's driver ecosystem for laptops where you have both a discrete laptop GPU and an integrated graphics chip. It allows a program that doesn't need the GPU to launch using integrated graphics (like Intel Iris) to save on power and improve battery life, while if a program says it needs graphical performance, it will launch using the discrete GPU (which chews more battery but actually gives you decent 3D graphics).@Rhaervis: I am unsure what Nvidia Optimus is as it is not installed on my computer. Optimus can happen automatically, by a program requesting it, or by user forcing it on. You can force it on from the Nvidia control panel—go to the application-specific settings for FFXIV and you'll have an option for 'Forced Rendering Mode'; setting that to 'High Performance' (if I remember the way it's labeled right, anyway) will force it to use the Nvidia GPU in all cases. Similarly, launching manually from Nvidia Experience will always put an application (and I believe any child processes) into High Performance mode for the duration of that run.
In all honesty, FFXIV should be automatically going into High Performance mode and thus switching to the Nvidia GPU, so I'll admit the possibility you were stuck using the Intel graphics chip didn't occur to me. If for some reason it isn't and 6d is caused by the computer using the integrated graphics chip, then launching from GeForce Experience (as happykoala suggests) would work, or just manually forcing the High Performance setting on in the Nvidia control panel (so you never have to think about it again and remember to launch from GeForce Experience).

@happykoala: Thanks for your input. If I am not mistaken, I do not have this program installed on my computer (as mentioned in original post) since it does not show up in the search bar.
@Packetdancer: Thanks for the clarification. I forced the entire computer to run on high graphics, which I honestly do not think is necessary because prior to installing 5.2 patch (the night before) I was playing ffxiv fine without fiddling with any settings of any sort. I checked while I was on the game previously and it was using the Nvidia card so I have a suspicion that it was not using the Intel graphics card unless something about the launching process suddenly got changed for the 5.2 update.
✰✰✰So I tried something that @BLaCKnBLu3B3RRY suggested in a different thread, which involves enabling UAC. Why it was disabled in the first place, I have no idea since I did not fiddle with anything in particular after receiving this new computer 1 month ago. I pretty much switched everything back to as it was prior to patching but with UAC enabled and it now plays as if nothing happened, but I do not see why this is suddenly a prerequisite for the game to run considering it was fine the night before the patch dropped. If anyone can enlighten me that would be great. Thanks.
Huh! I'm glad that worked for you. I couldn't say offhand why UAC being disabled would break the latest build, but it is known to break some things. I mean, you shouldn't have UAC disabled in the first place—as you no doubt know given your 'no idea how it got disabled' remark—but turning it off entirely can cause Explorer previews to die, among other things. Despite being tech-savvy, I could not offhand tell you why on earth that is, but it's certainly possible that all the changes to FFXIV's executable for 5.2 have made it susceptible to that sort of issue.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Thank you for keeping us updated RiriRilu. We will be moving this thread to "Closed Concerns".
Good luck with your adventures through Eorzea!
