MSI Afterburner (for AMD or Nvidia cards) or NVidia Inspector (for, y'know, just Nvidia cards) should let you view the overclock status of your card (and disable it if necessary). It should also allow you to underclock your card if you want to try that. I don't expect it would be what causes the 6d error, myself, but it can't hurt to have the tools around.

Do make sure to write down the original settings just in case before you change anything, of course.
