I feel like forcing everyone else in the zone to turn off effects/sound doesn't trump an individual's right to enjoy spamming a loud obnoxious spell in a crowd of people for fun. But maybe thats just me. That being said I think GMs should just have a way to mute someone for 24 hours, or just disable most spells in town entirely.

Playing music wouldn't be disturbing the peace anywhere I've seen it. I mean, they could even have a permit to play there. The point was, saying that a TOS was similar to legality was the analogy.

Permits are one thing you didn't mention in you original allegory. You said 'standing on a public street playing music turning a flashlight on and off.' I promise you if you were to do that in my town and people complained, cops would come and at least talk to you. I was agreeing that you shouldn't be arrested for it but was pointing out that sometimes people would be arrested for that.

Permit or not if you're doing it at the wrong time of day and you get enough complaints, your chances of being told to just move along go down. Maybe this is a better allegory than I thought after all.

Let me explain it to you since you obivousely don't they teleport you they say x line and you get about 5 mins to ask why and a explaination which they give you one though its extremely lame normally.

In this case it was because someone found it offensive when anyone who knew me back then knew there was nothing offensive about it which by way the name word you might not know the meaning of means the BL which is a popular theme in manga and anime which is normally pg-13.

Heres the funny thing about it before that forced name change i was brought to the jail over a joke i made about i'll give real life cookies if you put on a yaoi show and someone reported that as rmt ... the same gm saw the name and even laughed with the only words he gave was "becarefully how you word things" and that was a warning.

i mean you might consider it obnoxious but banning someone for repeatedly casting an ability is too harsh which is the point. a warning would've sufficed.

being annoyed by something doesn't really mean much either, i could be annoyed at players talking nonstop in say chat instead of a linkshell or doing pretty much literally anything and that doesn't mean they should be banned

theres also the fact that tos specify spamming to harass a player. if you read the post he actually joined a couple other players who were already casting holy. how is that harassment? it might be obnoxious but its not harassment and definitely not ban worthy

And you just proved my point about players being civil to each other. You immediately jumped to name calling simply because we have differing opinions. A white knight is someone who will defend every aspect of something, even if its bad. That I am not. I simply think there is more to this story that we don't have access to. For all I know there is more to YOUR story that you aren't telling us. The point is we simply don't know. Why would you take the word of a person you have never met before? Any logical minded person wouldn't. And I would appreciate it if you could be civil to me like I am being toward you. And FYI, I actually do know how GM's work in MMO's and what types of policies and actions they take. I've been on the gaming scene for 27 years.

Sure, on one hand it seems excessive and silly to issue a ban for that. On the other hand, spamming Holy in a city is also excessive and silly; you can also add annoying. Very similar to that kid who points their finger right at your face and starts saying, "I'm not touching you! I'm not touching you!"

I'm not sure what's worse: SE frying small fish, or players defending them out of spite. You guys understand that if we lose the ability to use any skill inside of a city, it is going to be because of players like this bozo, correct? It only takes a couple of rotten apples to spoil things for everyone, and it's dismissive to tell the player that reports them that they can just turn abilities off. Whether to use that feature, or the report feature is at the discretion of the player being bothered.

If a player's idea of fun is likening themselves to a fly in a nice restaurant, and ruining the experience and immersion of others; that is detestable behavior that doesn't have a place anywhere. Not just an mmo like FFXIV. The community is a happier and better place without them. In either case, SE can make an example out of anyone they want to. No point making a big deal out of it as the only person affected is the Holy spammer, who very likely won't be doing it anymore when he/she returns.
