There's nothing oppressive about glaming however you want. You aren't being oppressed someone wearing something you don't like. If you were being made to dress in a frog suit or bikini etc, then sure that would be oppressive taking away your choice. Other people doing it however is not oppressing you. This is a group game with a community aspect. If you can't handle how other people glam then play a single player game where you don't need to worry about other people.

And that's why I also don't think this thread's likely to actually go anywhere useful: there's unlikely to be any agreement because the actual core view of this feature which people have is coming from two entirely separate—and wildly different, yet equally understandable—viewpoints. And so, unfortunately, I imagine neither side is terribly likely to yield.

There is no debate to be had. This thread was useless since it's conception. It's already nearly 100 pages! Unbelievable! It's too bloated to even read through anymore!

Eh, I guess my point is that people seem to think the way they do because it's an electronic medium. It's almost like a distraction from the actual issue here. As soon as it involves the internet or anything with a screen, people begin to draw non-existent parallels.

If somebody took a screenshot of the game and mailed it to me on paper via snail mail, should I not be allowed to draw on it with a marker?

We already came to the overwhelming agreement that Square Enix will never implement such a feature. But that doesn't make the reasoning behind it wrong.

So now that we have female characters tanking in string bikini's and now men in wedding dresses, it's time to adopt an option a lot of other games have: Hide Glamour. Naturally troglodyte are going to assume it's because of the men in dresses. It's actually because it's breaks the theme and feel of it being a final fantasy game. Tanks should wear plate, healers should wear robes, and no one should be in a fight seriously wearing carbuncle slippers and lingerie.

I don't propose a limit to glamour, I just want to be able to turn off other players glamours displaying on my client. That way they can "Express" themselves all they want, and I don't have to suffer another topless male in a thong.

Actually, I don't want to see a guy in a dress, OR a thong. Nor do I want to see a girl in a thong. If they can protest to do it, I can protest the opposite. A guy in a dress might be about genuine self-expression, but it is more likely for rebellion, and half-nakedness is only about being rebellious. They are doing it to BE looked at, and to say, "I can do this, and you can't stop me." The Western and Japanese views on this is a bit different across cultures, and I do think SE should consider that. Because, in the end, this is SE's decision to put thongs, emperor's "clothes," and genderless female and male clothing. I hold them more responsible, so to speak, than the players, especially when those players are youth.

Being able to turn off glamours is not a perfect solution. I actually like looking at some of the creativity of the player's outfits. Plus, the visual mismatch of what they are actually wearing is sure to be jarring in of itself, but I'll take it over the streakers.

Only if the want of putting such things in was not a good enough reason to add them, as well. We all know it runs deeper than this. That is why it is controversial.

The interesting thing about opinions is that they differ from person to person. Some may share them, though others will not.

What's silly to you isn't silly to somebody else. What isn't immersion breaking to you is immersion breaking for someone else. (Especially when some glamours were only added to the game after sustained accusations of the development team being prone to bigotry...)

What isn't seen as a good reason for you is an excellent reason for somebody else.

As such, the best compromise is to give players the choice to tweak things to their liking. Everybody wins - except those seeking to deliberately force themselves on others who have no interest in interacting with or acknowledging them.

And people expect a moderator or dev to trudge through this sewage when this very idea would never make it to any serious person's desk.

It offers absolutely nothing to the game in terms of QoL enhancements, ease of access to the game. It doesn't add fun activities to the game nor increase the longevity of it.

And for everyone complaining about the skimpy glamour, why didn't you speak up louder when those were first introduced.

So going outside shirtless when it's 100 degrees is rebellious? Or going to a pool in just your trunks or bikini is rebellious?
