I tried to stay out of this, Hells, I tried to stay off this forum in general, but I guess I am a glutton for punishment because here I am again and it's because this comment is absolutely ridiculous. Why is some people's first reaction to a person that doesn't care to see dudes in dresses automatically to assume they "hate the gays" so to speak? It couldn't just be that something like that could be distracting from taking the story seriously could it? No, I guess not, it has to be because they have some deep resentment for gay/trans/ETC people right?

and they brought it up because they said "now we have tanks in bikini and man in dresses" which well we have had tanks in bikinis for ages
and well the "Naturally troglodyte are going to assume it's because of the men in dresses" is a big give away.

And that is one. If the game doesn't care enough to be consistent with the gear it provides individual classes, I suppose there's nothing to it.
I guess I'm not immune to becoming blind to certain factors when I want to have my way in certain arguments.

As I said prior, it was just wishful thinking, a wish that I never had any interest in voicing until the OP opened this thread.

Yeah. Another problem as well as has been mentioned in this thread previously is how gear often gets mismatched (raiders especially have to BiS and that involves multiple gear sets with very different designs). That being said, their first AF gear (so for Dancers that would be the i430 gear for example, for Machinist we'll also go for the Stormblood artifact gear, since the HW AF gear was locked behind tomes). Paladin for example would also have the stormblood AF gear (reason: it comes with a weapon). I could see that working, as that'd allow each job to have a theme, while still allowing those glamour options to be gone. While I'm personally against the idea myself, I'm not averse to the idea of trying to find a way to make this work if it will please a large chunk of the playerbase.

I'd rather be able to, as a tank, have more healer replica gear to use for glamour, and I'm sure plenty a healer would like to use some tank replica gear so as to not always be stuck in wearing yet another long robe.

Note: By making an option to have classes appear as their level appropriate AF gear on your screen, the "we don't want people confused by cross glamour" excuse would be eliminated. If you have a problem identifying what people are, click, problem solved.

On the one hand, if it didn't take away dev time from things that really needs to be adressed, then I don't think it's harming anyone except the servers.

But then, as mentioned, we DO get some ridiculous sets like Evenstar's jester outfit with upright tails and that gods-awful bag in the Nabaath healer and other sets. Not to mention how mismatched gear tends to be because, yeah, raiders wear a mix of tome, crafted, and raid gear, so the resulting hodgepodge might end up looking WORSE than the metaphorical bikini (and outside my ex-bf being one of said 'bikini tanks' they are much rarer than the general populace seems to believe, and at least HE keeps his gloves and greaves on).

If only all the "you don't get to choose how I look" people knew about graphic mods.

There's lots of people out there putting you in some.. compromising gear.

I attended a wedding once in the "far eastern" dress. I asked my friend afterwards if he could pass me some screenshots to just have. He made an excuse about me not being in a lot of em even though I remembered specifically being around and being very visual whenever he called out for screenshots.. The ones he did pass me usually had me in the back or very far away.. but one of em I noticed the dress had a certain gauzy translucence about it. he still won't admit it but Im reasonably sure on his screen I was making the wedding super racy.

Functionally no different and you could be at least sure that the game itself was presenting you in a certain way rather than what is actually happening right now where on several peoples screens you are either naked or .. enhanced.

The difference is that it would be permitted - and I don't see how it would add any more certainty. Modders are still going to be doing that the same way, and it just adds a new officially-endorsed way to put my character in gear that I didn't pick and don't want to wear.

how do you feel about people turning down textures and res? Knowing that you're blurry and chunky on someone elses screen? That none of the effects your skills produce are on their screen?

I don't see these as comparable at all. My character in a low-res version of the game is still my character. Spell effects are not personalised.

Why does it matter to you?

Because I put time and effort into picking lore-appropriate glamours that suit my individual characters and taste in clothing, and that is how I want them to be seen by other players.

And as I said before, the majority of de-glamoured outfits look dreadful, even before you get into whether I want it for the character.

I don't think people realise how many good immersive outfits they'd be losing alongside the few bad ones.

The thing is you wouldn't know whether or not someone had the feature turned on because it's only observable to that individual, so you can pick your outfits and coordinate them as much as you want with the assumption that everyone will see the effort you put in and you would be none the wiser for those who don't.
