Pretty much this. It's a valid idea, with many reasons why it might not be implemented, however, the most talked-about reason - the perceived "ethics" - is not one and is something manufactured by players who feel insecure about letting others play differently.I do think it is safe to say most people that are in favor of this idea know it is a pipe dream, granted I do not expect anyone to go back as to the page one but many including myself have stated that this is a far fetched idea. Still does not detract from talking about it.
I don't know I couldn't live in a world without a waistline! :P My alt Tiffa was born a lala Paladin and made it through ARR story that way but my little potato lost out when Au ra hit the scene.I do think it is safe to say most people that are in favor of this idea know it is a pipe dream, granted I do not expect anyone to go back as to the page one but many including myself have stated that this is a far fetched idea. So telling people that it is unlikely to happen does not change much of anything since most people here already know that. Also idk Yoshi-P might be into a Lala only world, I mean we are perfect in every way.
And I agree talking about it is what people like to do. Glad to see some realize it's a pipe dream but asking for something never hurts.
The "ethics" behind this feature have been interesting talking point and truthfully I was shocked how many players have a such a personal connection with their in-game characters. I have personally enjoyed that aspect the most of this discussion.
Overall I do agree this idea would have many hurdles to overcome, while the ethics are interesting it is the weakest of the reasons as to not having such a feature.
I give you that, our potato shape is not for everyone, it is truly a way of life that not everyone can keep for a lifetime.I don't know I couldn't live in a world without a waistline! :P My alt Tiffa was born a lala Paladin and made it through ARR story that way but my little potato lost out when Au ra hit the scene.

They wouldn't/couldn't do this because it could affect NPCs (which might also be another reason why they wouldn't make a Hide-Glamour option, now that I think about it).
Glamour are related to mirages. They already hide them when you change race and used a race-locked (or genderlocked) glamour as mirage before the modification.
Somehow, it even means it is already available, but "context" restricted XD
More so a matter of wouldn't, they most certainly could do it. Nothing in terms of the games code, or even engine would prevent the the swapping of models / textures on a client side bases.

That'd be incredible. Midlander men are pretty hot.
Personally I think it'd be a good addition. I probably wouldn't use it cause I enjoy seeing other people's silly glams, but I can understand why other people would like more "traditional" visuals for immersion purposes.
However I do imagine for a programmer's side of things it would probably be kind of difficult to implement. Obviously not sure though. Either way not a crucial addition
The reaction to this thread is so aggressive and unnecessary. Why is the desire to not see absurd cosmetics in the game such a horrible idea for some people here? I'm all for everyone being able to glamour anything they want, but I'd also love to be able to disable it on my client and get to see people dressed in a few variations of job/npc gear. It would be an immersive and harmless playstyle. One which would respect both sides of the argument.
Oh well, I'll probably get a bunch of rude responses. Forums these days are so hostile.
