My general rule of thumb as a tank main is that if you start pulling FOR me, I'll let you keep it. You spank it, you tank it. However, I'm usually forgiving and let it happen a few times before I let you die. My opinion? Let your tank know you want bigger pulls instead of just going ahead and pulling for them. I feel that's a reasonable request. Chances are that if you say "Big pulls!" I'm gonna pull everything that's expected. But if the healer is silent, I don't know what to expect so I test the waters with a small pull first.

On that small pull, is the healer mostly DPSing? If yes, pull more. Elseif, maintain small pulls. It's usually easier that way. And in the rare case the healer is silent and runs ahead to pull more, I'll start big pulls until proven that they can't handle it.

TLDR: As a Tank I have my own routine if nothing is said at the beginning. Otherwise I pull according to the healers request. Pulling for me is not ideal, but I make due until the healer lets me die.
