Okay, so I read the original post. And as a former healer, I still think it's rude as all get out regardless of content. xD Back in mah day /shakes cane/ the tanks would let the healer die if they pulled. "You pull, you tank," basically. I haven't really seen them do that these days. I think there's pressure to steal aggro back to be considered a good tank even if someone - like a healer - purposely pulls an extra mob.

If a tank isn't pulling more, they might not be comfortable to pull more (either they're new, or they're tired, or they realised their gear durability is low and they forgot to do repairs - literally any reason). It's not always about the healer. You have to be considerate of the other players, such as the tank, when playing. If you're bored, and can take more (as a healer) ASK for the tank to pull more. They almost always try to pull more. If they're gauging, you cay say "you can still pull more" or "that's good" and they'll go with it. If they're not comfortable taking on more, then suck it up because it's only one run.

Unless it's for strategic purposes, like kiting an angry mob of ants around the arena in Cutter's Cry while the tank & DPS burn the boss though, this strategy might be obsolete now, a healer (or DPS) should never pre-pull anything deliberately. Accidents happen, yes, but don't deliberately do it.

I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.

I agree entirely, communication is the most important thing regardless of content difficultly.

    Original post:

If you know the dungeon and have an idea of what's coming and how much damage there will be dealt, there's imo no point in not rushing ahead and pulling more mobs as healer when tank keeps pulls small, especially when tank is geared to the point you barely need to heal. Me and many other healers/players are constantly calculating which move will lead to most dps while keeping everybody alive, and rushing/pulling ahead is sometimes the best move in that regard

I usually don't prepull even when I know I can without problems, except for some cases, like in those lvl 50/60/70 dungeons. Sometimes I literally have to use maybe 5 healing abilities (oGCD/GCD) throughout whole dungeon even when tank pulls wall to wall. They are an absolute joke to heal through and thus they are very boring as healer cause you're stuck spamming 1 dps ability all the time.

Yet several times I've heard tank or dps get mad and tell me to stop prepulling, even when they had ignored my request to pull more. Meanwhile tank proceeds to not go beyond 80% health without any healing. Why is prepulling considered rude/bad in this case? Everyone is completely overgeared to the point they may solo the entire dungeon.

I don't mind at all if tank wants to keep pulls small, but they should also not mind if I go pull mobs and bring them to the tank. They literally don't have to do anything except their aoe rotation, which they are doing anyway.
I main Tanks, have all jobs at 80. If I do roulettes at this point it's for the quick burst of tomes, so I queue as whatever is currently in Need. On my DC that's still Tank most of the time, but Healer fairly often in some roulettes, and DPS rarely.

All that being said, I do the same exact thing when I heal because as a tank main I can tell when a tank is pulling too little AND I'm confident in my abilities as a Healer as well.
I like aggressive healers when I'm playing tank, just don't regen me while I'm pulling...

With lower ilvl gear, it can actually be pretty difficult to pull a huge pack as an undergeared tank.
