It's literally still a gender lock. The only difference is that it's one piece of equipment and not two.
The female striking top does dye weirdly, I would have liked the cloth parts to be dyeable instead of the corset. It's like a salmon pink color D:, however, I LOVE the general aesthetic of that top. My favourite is probably the aiming one but they are all amazingly well designed.
This is really the crux of the matter. A lot of players who play female characters occasionally want to wear a dress or miniskirt. Most players who play male characters don't want to wear those. Just look around in Limsa or some other popular hangout place and it's obvious. The sensible solution is to make the occasional miniskirt or dress for females and something else for males, but still make the majority of all gear unisex. And sometimes they even unlock popular glamours for both genders. Now it's perfectly fine if you don't like how the female set looks and would prefer the male one. But if you made the female gear look like the male set, you'd conversely have people that prefer the female version wanting it back. And if they gave both genders both versions you'd basically have to sacrifice a gear set to make it happen to allocate the artist resources to make it happen.
There is no grand conspiracy to offend progressive minded people with gender locks. It's just an efficient way to give people what they actually want to wear.

You're basically saying the gear designers feeling are Second to your own because... Reasons. Nothing is stopping you from wearing pants under the skirt and nothing is hindering you from playing the gender in game, most given the option to do so.I'm going to say it... I hate it. I do not like being forced into a skirt. Which totally sucks because of all the released sets in this patch, the crafted gear tanking set is the best looking tanking set but as a female, I will be forced to wear a frilly damn skirt JUST because I'm FEMALE, with no choice in the matter...
NO! THANKS!
It's a good looking set. Congrats on the designer, truly, but forcing an entire half of a population into something JUST because of the gender they are is NOT cool when there are options they would prefer in that same set.
With all this talk of acceptance and inclusivity, one would think half a thought would go to the content creators... Must be fun watching others who lack your talent, skill, and vision, be so quick to demand changes be made to their designs for virtue signalling, lazy, entitled individuals.
If you want more options, enter the next contest yourself.

Not showing the female pants here because I don't like them (they're the same short bloomers as all the other sets). The hats are the same for both genders. DRG has similar designs in red.
The only similarity I can see between them is the armour on the left arm, and the gloves and boots.
Having tried on the female gear first, I was fully expecting some kind of ruffled shirt in the same blue.
Lilac purple seems like a closer match to me.The female striking top does dye weirdly, I would have liked the cloth parts to be dyeable instead of the corset. It's like a salmon pink color D:, however, I LOVE the general aesthetic of that top. My favourite is probably the aiming one but they are all amazingly well designed.
The mage dresses are my favourites of the set, and the male version looks nice too (but I still need to get Sylviel to Lv80 so he can actually wear them!). The tank/dragoon dress is nice too.
I support locking all armor. No one can wear it, only look at it.
Get to sleep and get away from the forums for a few months, you have been 6 posts and they are all worse than the other. So with the release of the patch, the name of the gear came out and I can reference it better but apparently, the female variant of the tanking set DOES become a frilly dress and the leggings a skirt...
This is BS.
Propagating a chauvinistic ideal is stupid. Now a whole series of awesome looking armor will be glamoured over because someone ELSE thinks my character should automatically be running around in a frilly dress and a short skirt while the male variant, far more practical and better looking in my opinion, is rocking the better looking option.
Simple solution, make BOTH available to BOTH sexes or simply DON'T make variants.
I've always been disappointed in the lack of good skirts. I often glamour them onto the outfits. I don't really see the issue, tbh.
The gendered versions are disappointing as expected, but I'm also upset that the Aiming set has a gun on the top.
I was really hoping they'd stay true to the design and put the stupid thing on the pants so I could use a cool top but no... dancers and bards and monks use guns now I guess. Hate it.
So I'm hoping they add a couple level 1 all-jobs/genders glam versions someday that dont have guns and arent restricted to gender... it's such a fantastic set otherwise.
