Changing the symbol wont do any good. Having something to claim by your name, and offering a roulette + glam + mount will always attract people to the mentor program.

The issue is that mentors aren't easily defined, and many players define what a mentor should be differently.

    This, this, this!

As one of those new players, FF14 seems so lonely without a world chat channel. "Join a Free Company" is the popular mantra most people shout out, but it isn't that easy for some.

And I have had a lot of good interactions with the mentors in the Novice Channel. Very helpful.

Yes, the novice channel is mostly random chat. And I like that. And when I have a question, someone is there to help.

So yes, the novice network is good and FF14 needs a world chat channel. (One that people can opt out of.)

So you are confirming the mentor system is worthless, and we just need a world chat channel to replace it?! I agree.

I would prefer get rid of mentor status

    Delete all icons

Just keep "helper" chats for newcomers

Mentors are trash ( from my experience stand point )

You do not need to have a special status, icon, or mount to help others. You can do it just out of a desire to help. And this can be called "real help".

Yes, there will be a lot of indignation and denial, as in the previous topic, because, obviously, today's mentors do not like it when the truth is told about them.

I guess the world chat would serve the same purpose. However, in my experience in WoW, you can ask in world chat and very often not get an answer.

FF14 mentors, on the other hand, are routinely helpful. At least in the novice channel. Not much experience in the outside world since...well, no world chat. And I hate asking people out of the blue. At least in a world chat, you know they are looking for a conversation...or at least are willing to read one.

So I am fine with the mentor thing, as long as mentors want to be mentors. If you don't want to be one, why have it? Maybe as a toggle? If you don't want to help, turn off your mentor status. When you're ready to help, turn it back on.

But yeah, FF14 needs a world chat. Won't happen, though. Doesn't seem to fit the culture.

The argument that people wouldn't want to join a mentor system without a reward could be made, but honestly I would rather have this system, where no mentor rewards are given, and the few who stay in the mentor program are actually there to help, or having the mentor rewards all obtainable by other easier means making obtaining them via mentor roulette a hindrance.

I would actually be 100% down with keeping the current NN chat, and also having a World Chat tab exist. It would probably get a lot of people in the NN out of it and just have them chat in the World Chat tab.

I played MMO games where there was nothing like a mentor system, but people helped each other. Through a world chat, in raids and dungeons, they simply gave each other advices and did not expect any awards. This system of voluntary and mutual assistance worked perfectly, and there was no toxicity associated with privileges or prestige.

Now we have a group of "chosen people" who do not understand the point of mentoring. As soon as the SE increased the number of recommendations, people began to receive craft mentoring to wear the crown. This is just ridiculous.

I honestly think there should not be two types of mentors and instead consolidate the combat and trade mentors requirements into one because there's a massive disparity in how difficult it is to get the former over the latter.

Cactuar's novice network is starting to hit the mentor limit again and it's largely because of people just getting trade mentor for the easy crown.

As a new player i really like the novice network being there. Its helped me a great deal with stuff i didnt know about. I guess novice network and the mentor system go hand in hand so if you take it away then novice network wouldnt be there and i probably wouldnt know half the things ive learned from the novice network.
