Should I switch to other class when my MSQ progress prevents me from level up?

I am a new player to FF14 and I have created my first character in a preferred world just around 3 weeks ago. With the EXP boost, as well as the rested EXP bouns, and with those bonus from food, as well as the bonus EXP in dungeon as I am playing white mage..... it seems that I have reached lv. 50 too quick that my MSQ progress prevents me from further leveling up.

While most of the guides out there suggesting I should stick to my first class / job without saying why, should I at least opens up another class to have the MSQ EXP absorbed? (i.e. switch to that class right before finishing the quest to have the EXP rewarded as another class?)

I am just starting to finding that airship with Cid in my MSQ, so I guess I will be losing much EXP if I just do nothing?

If you are unable to keep levelling once you reach Lv50, that means you must only have the base game installed and not the expansions. You can keep levelling up to the level cap of the newest expansion you've installed and registered to your account. So if you've bought the expansions and intend to keep playing into them, make sure you install it sooner rather than later. Not only do you have the rest of ARR, but also a long chunk of story at Lv50 before you officially move into Heavensward.

Generally speaking, you can usually level two classes between quests and MSQ even when you don't have the double EXP bonus. You're a long way from the end of the base game if you're in Coerthas looking for the airship, and it probably won't take long at all to get up to story level with another class.

MSQ progress by itself will not prevent you from leveling up. Howver, unless you have the Heavensward expansion you will not be able to level beyond level 50. (Both the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions are included if you buy Shadowbringers - the latest expansion)

If you have the Road to 70 buff you will gain EXP very quickly, so using one or two extra classes to absorb all that extra EXP is a great idea - otherwise you will just outlevel quests very quickly.

Sounds like you have only the base game installed. If you want to go beyond level 50, up to level 80 (The Current Max) you'll need to purchase the expansions and register them to your account.

I am a brand new player to the game. I just recently hit 50. I went and unlocked RDM and saw that I wasn't getting EXP either anymore. I own every expansion. I bought the complete edition with all expansions on both PC and PS4. You need to complete your main story to enable higher levels, unfortunately.

You shouldn't have to do that. I have one alt who is still at Lv20 in the story (just joined a GC) but is over Lv50. Another alt hit Lv60 in time to pick up gunbreaker before the ARR finale.

Most likely you haven't registered your game properly. Otherwise, something else is wrong.

I bought the complete editions and the game and all their expansions are showing up for me for PS4, PC and Digital Collector's Edition. The only spot not showing up is the Mac client but I don't have a Mac. I hit level 50 during an MSQ called Project Archon I believe. I looked it up last night and I show I have three more original MSQ I have to clear to be done with standard ARR. After this I apparently have to do 100 more quests before unlocking the expansion stories.

After I hit 50 I went and unlocked Red Mage because they look awesome. I met the guy at the Inn for a drink and he gave me a sword and a coffer. That quest said it was worth 58k EXP for me and I got 0 EXP when I did it. That was the last thing I did for the night and last night I went to my girlfriends house so I couldn't play. I have read other people have this issue online as well and their solution was close out of the game, log back in and complete another MSQ and you should be gaining EXP again. I am hoping this is my fix when I login tonight after work. I have access to RDM so I should have access to 50-60 but the quest I completed for him gave me no EXP despite what the quest read.

Yeah, I thought of it last night that if you can sign up for red mage then you must have successfully registered at least Stormblood to your account. (If you have access to Hrothgar and Viera in the character creator, then you have everything registered.)

Hopefully the easy fix works for you, otherwise post to the In-Game Bugs subforum and see if they can help you there.

I completed a normal quest when I got home and got 0 EXP for it. I was at like 0/850k or so. I then decided to try the next MSQ and as soon as we started fighting mobs I was getting EXP again. I guess that fixed it as I get exp for everything again and was able to get to 53 last night. I completed the first set of 19 quests after the ARR story is over out of the 100 or so needed to start the next expansion but I think I am going to be 60+ just from doing roulettes between quests by the time I get to the expansion content lol

If you dont want to over-level that much then stop doing the roulettes. You clearly dont need the exp. And if the goal was primarily poetics tomes then theres another way to get those that will give you less surplus exp. Each time you run a duty for the first time(or help someone else with a first time clear) you get a chunk of bonus poetics tomes plus whatever the duty normally pays out. There are a ton of optional trials dungeons and raids available at level 50. Focus on your quests so you can advance into Ishgard, and when you need a break que up to run a first time dungeon. Or check the party finder either for groups trying to do the content on your "To Clear" list, or for people with a first time bonus of their own who you can help to get paid. Hell, put up your own PF group for some of the harder ones and people might find it and join to help you(and get paid). The big 100 quest block is a lot, but it looks like a lot more then it actually is before you do it. Looking back, i see a slow start and an increasingly fast finish. Before hand? I was dreading the whole experience.
