I have been having a few seriously odd problems.

Okay well first thing I need to say is that I am using windows 7 ultimate, with a AMD Phenom II X4 BS5 Processor, with a AMD Radeon HD 6700 series Graphics card. I have been seeing a few problems ever since I got new parts for what is really quite an old computer, but with fairly high spec parts to it. I have always been seeing random dots on the screen when watching videos, and when I come to play games like FFXIV which requires a lot of usage, it makes my computer make some pretty loud noises, especially from the fan on the graphics card. I get problems with most games, that sometimes when I play, objects inside the game have been stretched across the screen, in a sort of way that looks unreal, i'll try and snap a screenshot next time it starts happening to me. But basically what happens is that corners of objects get literally stretched across the screen to another part on the screen, it blocks the vision and really makes the game unplayable, it usually only does this when I have some programs running in the background while I'm playing. Any help on this would really be appreciated.


Another problem I have been noticing ever since I've had the game is that whenever I am playing the game full screen, if I click the 'Windows' button it crashes the game instantly. Any help on how to prevent this would really be useful, thanks

If you're your computer is really loud you might want to check the temperature. You could need aftermarket heatsinks or additional fans on your case.

The fullscreen thing is just something the engine does for now. It won't happen in the new 2.0 client coming late this year, but for now I'd recommend playing with a fullscreen window. You can set the size of the window to your native monitor resolution, then use a script to resize move the window so that the window borders are just off-screen.

Sort of. It's still technically running in windowed mode, but the window is positioned in such a way that the borders of the window aren't visible. I believe there's a link to how to set it up on the FFXIV Reddit.

As to your stretched graphics, it sounds like you could very well have heat or driver issues, so get a program like MSI Afterburner and check the temp of your card during gameplay.

Also, I take it the processor is a B55 and you may have an unstable core (or 2), so try and set it to the default 2 cores, and see if that helps on your "dot" issue.
Get a program to check your CPU temps too, just to make sure that it is not running too hot with the unlocked cores.

The information already provided on this thread basically covers your issues. The problems you are experiencing are a result of the hardware becoming overheated and overtaxed. You’ll want to look into updating or upgrading your hardware, and ensuring that it does not overheat. We do wish you the best of luck in that.
