While I agree to an extent, something from 5+ years ago should really be locked and a new topic, with more recent data, started if the conversation needs to be had. Dredging up posts from that long ago, without putting anything relevant to the discussion, should definitely not be happening. The thing with a public forum is you're not directly communicating with people, you're posting ideas or replies for all to view.
People can look upon this information and provide their own input. This doesn't need to have a time limit to it.
Limiting discourse via a time limit doesn't seem like a great idea in any case, especially when people just deem some arbitrary limit to it.
TBH There's nothing wrong with necroing a thread if there's a legitimate purpose. I can't tell you how many times I could have found the answer to something if people just necro'd a thread with the solution. ofc this isn't stackexchange so... There's that.
You can tell that a certain necromancer is just trying to flood the front page of the forums with old negative threads to promote toxicity.
So all his characters are/have been linked to FCs of the same name across various servers/worlds, they all have 10-13 members of the same appearance/naming scheme. I won't name them in case it's against the rules, but you can use the Lodestone's Character/FC searcher to see for yourselves.
Think we'll have to endure potentially 13 troll accounts before this finally ends?

If he has so many accounts I wouldn't be surprised if this were rmt related and we never see the end of it unless SE go down real hard on him.So all his characters are/have been linked to FCs of the same name across various servers/worlds, they all have 10-13 members of the same appearance/naming scheme. If the thread is only locked (rather than deleted) after it hasn't had new posts for a certain amount of time, then it can still be linked to in the first post of a new thread by somebody who wishes to revisit the discussion. The thing with a public forum is you're not directly communicating with people, you're posting ideas or replies for all to view.

This provides the same benefit as necroing but removes a lot of the confusion that results when people don't notice the dates on early posts and start responding to statements that were made before significant changes to the game and/or buy people who may not have looked at the forums in a long time. This is what I've seen done on other forums where threads have been auto-locked after a certain amount of time inactive. It doesn't prevent discussion but it does cut down on confusion that tends to come with necroing.
Honestly, there should be a time frame after which a thread is auto-locked and archived. No more necros.
Kind of embarrassing that FF14 would let one guy for who knows how long keep this up. Like dude its your official forums, take control of it? If the majority of your forum community is having an issue, do something about it.
