I say the hanging ending no more implies he ends up with Marcette than Rod's ending implies he ends up with Sylphie. Ironically, I'd say Ywain has a better chance of learning more about himself with Astrid's idea than with Rod's. The man's certainly going to learn what it is he wants, or doesn't want, after spending some time with that woman.

Sylphie's help might get him a little more attention, but what good is that if he can't make a move? Or worse, what good is it if it's just not who he is? His biggest hurdle is that he's holding himself back. He's never going to reel anyone in if he never casts out the line.

On the other hand, really, Bert's idea was probably the best for laying a good foundation. The guy really needed to be passionate about something. Maybe it doesn't have to be carpentry, but, c'mon, you gotta have at least some small thing you enjoy and can animatedly share with others
Nah, Sylphie schooling Ywain is best. She will let him know what the ladies like from a young woman perspective. Mind you, she may be young, but is a prodigy, so she isn’t dumb. Being thrown to the lion’s den like Astrid did, could have the opposite effect and scare him off completely. He at least is being guided by someone in Rodrigault’s ending. With Bert, he at least could find someone of interest. Ywain needed to be eased in to the situation, especially since he doesn’t even know what he likes. I just think Rod’s ending is best.
