Valentines day event fail

Astrid won on every server on every data center. Since they made the event a popular choice vote we don't get to see what the other decorations would have been nor can we even go to youtube to see Rodrigault or Bert's cutscenes. Astrid's suggestion went as well as expected, meaning it didn't go well. Finally, they had to know this would happen. They made one choice, Astrid, a cute little kid. Rodrigault while having the best suggestion was a skinny male elf, asthetically people are going to go with astrid over him. Bert, is a highlander, who is already considered weird for having no eyebrows by most people and had a nonsense answer involving carpentry. They couldn't have slanted it more in Astrid's favor. I wouldn't have minded her winning if we could see the other two results but we can't so I consider this event a failure. When someone wins on every server on every data center it should be pretty obvious you didn't make the choices very equal.

But yeah, Astrid's suggestion was just bad. Pick up on your clientele? Should we expect young lancers to be suing Ywain for sexual harassment?

I wonder if they even bothered to create cutscenes for the other "possibilities"? I know the quests exist.

Welp... not since Diadem 2.0 have I been this disappointed. Blablabla. (Edit: seems results were by world after all). I don't understand why this needed to be a voting contest among all players for something that can be perfectly instanced like a quest.

And like Liale said there's also some bias in how the npcs and options were presented. Not only about the racial features, but also about Astrid being a familiar npc we've helped before, and a child at that. Even Lisette was greatly displeased if you choose anyone but Astrid. They really couldn't have shoehorned Astrid any harder than that.

It also didn't help that they didn't make it obvious in-game that you could dye the gear of the color you wanted. The event site stated it, and even told you what colors to use, but not that many people actually visited that site, and the quests rewarded you a coffer, without seeing the individual pieces and being able to notice you can dye them. They also had npcs of both genders showcasing each color with the npc of the corresponding option. Probably there was a lot of people who voted Astrid just because they wanted the red gear.

Wouldn't have been that bad if the results were calculated per WORLD instead of datacenter

it was per world, the issue is what many whanted the red dyed one and they didnt feel arsed to dye it red dalamud for their choice colour

I wouldn't be surprised if the vote was for something next year while Astrid was always intended to be the winner this year. Lisette insults both Bert and Rodrigault if you vote for them, but is a lot more supportive about you choosing Astrid.

Besides, I feel like they wrote up the joke of "Astrid's advice winds up causing Ywain to hook up with the crazy Central Shroud elf" in advance.

and ive seen a lot of people wearing the red gear and it's valentines and red is the colour youll want. so makes sense people will opt for her colour option. Why buy blue if I then have to go buy dye from mb at inflated price or do the associated beast tribe to unlock the dalamud red dye (Sahagin?) when it's easier if I just choose the red option. This assumes I know the gear is dyeable which as you said wasn't advertised apart from the lodestone event page which I'd wager less than 1% of players actually look at for event details. Especially when you hear people asking where the quests begin in shout chat etc in game.

In that case then it's even more evident how all that bias and lack of considerations created a scenario where 1 of the options won EVERYWHERE.

I dunno, I thought Astrid had the worst advice. Looking for love among your clients? That's how lawsuits happen. Most companies forbid it and it's a conflict of professional interest.

Given 'Bert' is a stupid name and memeable I was expecting memes to win the day.


But I guess it could boil down to...people like the colour red? I mean, I went Bert and dyed my outfit red, but I guess how many people just do it for the outfit and skip the cutscenes and storyline or made any principle behind their decision? My guess is that people picked their favourite colour and not everybody was invested in the event itself.

As I did it on 4 characters, I did one of each and Bert a second time.
