I dunno, I thought Astrid had the worst advice. Looking for love among your clients? That's how lawsuits happen. Most companies forbid it and it's a conflict of professional interest.
Given 'Bert' is a stupid name and memeable I was expecting memes to win the day.
But I guess it could boil down to...people like the colour red? I mean, I went Bert and dyed my outfit red, but I guess how many people just do it for the outfit and skip the cutscenes and storyline or made any principle behind their decision? My guess is that people picked their favourite colour and not everybody was invested in the event itself.
As I did it on 4 characters, I did one of each and Bert a second time.

I voted for the elf man because I liked him best, but I think we all knew deep in our hearts that the Cute and Funny elf girl would win.
I voted for Astrid for pretty much the reasons that were already listed above: I knew her, she's cute and precocious, Rodrigault was too robotic (and I was suspicious of him when he shared that info, like it was a trap), and Bert was written badly and didn't have the hot male-Highlander face.
What they should of done was either have all three emissaries be characters we know or all three be new characters and instead of voting on them and their love/wooing-philosophy, have them go and find the client a potential date and we vote for/side with the emissary we think made the best choice.

Reading the quest logs on the wiki they all kinda are only partially successful.

Oh hey, they did actually write up alternate scenarios.
So apparently, if Bert won then Ywain would've been forcibly made a part of the Carpenter's Guild by Beatin while Rodrigault would've sent Ywain to the Conjurer's Guild after which point Sylphie would've grabbed him for dating advice.
