Valentines day event fail

I knew something was off when I saw the results. It seemed like EVERYONE on Jenova was wearing some version of the Forget-Me-Not outfits. I couldn’t understand how Astrid could have won when I only saw like 3 people with the Rose dress.

I was determined to see the ending I voted for and traveled to other worlds to take the quest, only to find that she somehow managed to win on ALL worlds!? I was pretty dang ticked off. Still pretty ticked off.

Rod’s solution just made the most sense. To me, Bert’s was just totally random and of course, Astrid’s is just awful altogether. All the endings could have used some work since they’re all pretty bad, but Rod’s ending is still the best of the three. But of course, cute girls always win.

I felt pretty bad for Ywain and the implication that men like being abused by women is just creepy. “Ha ha it’s funny cause he’s a man!” We all know that if it was a girl being called a “meathead” and being ordered around by a really mean guy, everyone would lose it and claim SE are bigots or whatever. People keep saying not to take it seriously, but making fun of male victims just isn’t right, regardless of cultural differences.

At least we learned that Geva is married with two kids. I definitely didn’t expect that reveal.

The thing is Ywain himself is a rather serious character, so him being brushed off like that after legitimately asking for help was -justifiably- met with mixed reactions. If the character in question was someone...goofier, say, Hildy, the joke would've landed better, because he does get himself in that kind of situations. Heck, Bert could've been the character in question, he was basically diet Hildy.

All I see here is a much of babies who can't handle the fact that their favorite didn't win. This event was great and I enjoyed the fact that the community got to vote on the outcome and even though my vote didn't win I hope we get more stuff like this In The future.

The fact that the time, energy, and money people spent creating, drafting, revising the other two storylines, translating both for three different languages, and wait there's more, modeling characters for the cutscenes, programming the cutscenes and then debugging them, is all for nothing when literally NO ONE can experience those two storylines, or appreciate the work people put into them, in the game ever.

So of course I'm going to be angry about something as terribly handled as this. And I still do not wish to ever see this type of community voting event implemented in any form again. Especially when there is even just a fraction of a chance of someone's work being done for nothing.

You do realize how much work devs do as a whole in the gaming industry that just gets thrown out right? They didn't do it for nothing, they got paid, for that matter (at least I would hope so!).

Then I guess all other events from here on out should have the bare minimum effort put into them and just have the NPC quest giver handover the event item immediately. Since that's all people want anyway.

It would save SE valuable work hours and, more importantly, money. All these events are just glorified sub renewing machines anyway, and people will resub because of the Fear of Missing Out on that glamour.

I don't see it that way, look at how much community excitement was created through this event. The evidence is right here, all the people outraged over their choice not winning. Just assuming everyone only picked Astrid for Red. I think this event and the content created for it worked as intended.

As I've said before, I really wonder if the people making the content thought it would be not worth it in the long run. Not exactly pointless because flukes can happen, but there was no such thing, and unless they released all cutscene variants somewhere, they will just be forever unseen.

the cut scenes were probably not very different to begin with and probably already had templates just to copy and paste each characters preset and text right in
