Are there any significant difficulties/ inconveniences that accompany the healing with a pet that a noob/returning player should be aware of?

Should it deter someone from picking the job?

I know you get used to most things but I wonder if there are any kind of mechanics where you play finger twister managing pet actions on a separate hot bar.

Pets don't have their own actions on a separate hotbar any more. That was removed in ShB. Now all pet abilities are activated like normal abilities.

The only management you might have to do is occasionally telling your pet to stay in one particular place. Even that's fairly uncommon these days though and only needed in very specific situations.

There is WAY less pet management than in 2.0
The only thing is maybe placing your fairy and that's pretty situational at this point

The fairy was gutted beyond belief and is barely a pet anymore so no there’s nothing really to deter anyone anymore.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I feel that there is a lot of beef here with how they treated the pets. If I remember correctly they said early on that they didn't like pet classes to begin with.
Another question: what's the difference between Eos and Selene? And can you somehow set your pet to focus only a specific target? I tried both Sic and Guard but it doesn't seem to matter much.

There isn't any difference anymore on which one you use. Eos used to be the healing one where Selene used to help with dps.

Managing your pet is literally no different than using oGCDs on any other class.

in shb they also removed the ability to heal a specific party member so now the fairy just heals whoever is lowest (supposedly)

This is the saddest thing I've read so far. I never was too fond of extreme pet (micro)managing, but I was hoping that it would still somewhat add to the skill ceiling of the class. Feels like it's just there for the looks now.

I guess they meant it when they said they wanted to streamline the roles more.
