The reason why PLD was (is?) so unwanted in FFXI is that Utsusemi exists and that makes the core strength of the class obsolete.Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
PLD is my all time favorite XI job, but it's probably one of the last jobs on the "Need" list. SE has made no effort to improve the practicality of PLD in XI.
I would prefer the XIV incarnation be not only infinitely more useful, but actually DESIRED among the playerbase.
Even without Utsusemi, SE has "balanced" the game so that almost any DD job can withstand a reasonable amount of damage so that they can tank while still contributing more damage to the battle.
PLD's survivability, which is outstanding, is considered void because most any other melee job can eat the damage and still offer more to the battle. For a lot of that, the melee doesn't need utsusemi.
But I will give SE credit in that the Voidwatch content does void some DD as potential tanks.
So... STR > MND or VIT > MND?
Leaning on STR > MND.
Reading a Stanislaw.translation of Hal Walker posts it looks like Sentinel enhances the enmity.of damage, but not of Flash, Provoke, abilities.
And that the damage you deal during Flat Blade combo gets a x4.5 enmity boost.

Find out how to do the most dmg on flat blade (probably the same as all PLD's ws's) by hitting the 350/310 cap's on STR/MND. If you could do 400 on flat blade against Mistress you are gaining at least 1800 enmity spike every 10 seconds, that is some effing insane enmity rate.
