    Cross platform

    Hello,

Can I play on the PC and Playstation with the same character?

If so, how does it work with regards to upgrades?

For example, if I buy the complete collectors edition on the PS4, will that upgrade my PC account also? or does the base game have to be purchased on both platforms?

    Thank you for any advice!

You can use the same account on both platforms, just log in and everything is there. Only thing you have to do yourself is setup hotbars but it may be possible to use the launcher to save the settings on your first gamesystem and then restore it on the other one, not shure.

Second part, you do need to buy the game on both systems. You do not need to buy the collectors editions for both, only buy one collectors edition and for the other gamesystem buy just the base game/expansion.

The game tracks your "licenses" separately for each platform. If you bought the complete edition(collectors doesnt matter, as that only gives you extra items that you can claim) on PS4, youd have access to everything on that platform. If you then for example bought the base game on PC and registered it to the same account, then you would be able to log into your account and play with any of your characters - but only in the base ARR areas. If you had an alt logged out in the heavensward city you wouldnt be able to access them on PC. You would have to log in on PS4, move them to an appropriate zone, then you could play with them on PC. In practice, it means that you buy the game on the platform you use the most and wait for the expansion to go on sale to upgrade your side platform unless you need it right away.

Ah, back to being confused again. Caitlinzulu makes me think I can upgrade one and both platforms are at the same release, but Frizze makes me think I have to buy all expansion on both platforms.

This is correct. You have to buy the expansion twice if you want to play on both platforms.

What Cait was talking about is the collectors editions versions of the game, which are more expensive and come with some fancy mounts, pets, and glamour gear. It's completely optional and has no effect on the game at large. Those you only need to buy once. You could buy the PC collector's edition and the PS4 regular edition and still get all the fancy extras.

Got it, thank you all very helpful!!

I will stick with just the PC then, as that is my main platform. Now I just need to learn the rest of the game! exciting times, can't beat the first run through a new game, learning all the things as you go.

Cheers and may the loot lords shine on you!

The short version is "you have to buy the base game and Shadowbringers for both platforms."

    More thorough (more complicated) answers:

The MogStation keeps track of the base game and all expansions and platforms. If you have everything on PC, it would look something like this:
    Code:
            PC PS4 CE
    ARR x
    HW x
    SB x
    ShB x
If you bought the base game for PS4, you would be able to play any ARR content and enter any ARR areas. However, if you logged out from PC while in a HW/SB/ShB area, you would be locked out of the PS4 version until you logged back in with PC and moved to an ARR location. But as long as you logged out in an ARR area, you would be able to log in on PS4 and do non-expansion activities like low level content and retainer management.

If you had previously registered, say, ARR/HW/SB, you would have been able to log in as long as you were in any non-ShB area. However, the only way to have ARR/HW/SB but not ShB registered is to have registered Stormblood before ShB came out.

This is because buying Shadowbringers for PS4 would fill in all the HW/SB/ShB licenses for PS4, as the latest expansion always subsumes the previous expansions.

And the CE is tracked as its own "platform", so getting either the PC or PS4 collector's edition for a particular expansion will count for that expansion regardless of platform.

Curious question. If you are on a platform with only the base game installed (PS4 in this example), would roulettes then only place you in ARR content?
