I’ve always played on controller. I’ve never been a huge PC gamer, and most of the games I’ve played have been on home consoles or handhelds; so controller feels more natural to me. In FFXIV, I have auxiliary hotbars that I click with my mouse (things like mounts, favorite minions, food, waymarks, frequently accessed menu buttons), but the majority of my gaming is done on a controller despite playing on PC. I started FFXIV on the PS3, so I just carried it over to PC when I migrated over—tried learning KB+M and decided it wasn’t worth the time when I could just stay on controller.

I do keep one hotbar that is mapped to my Numpad—and I am able to utilize it alongside my controller without it affecting performance. Mostly, I keep miscellaneous skills on the Numpad hotbar (e.g., AST sects are on it, the tank stances, miscellaneous macros like my MT/OT Nature’s Minne macros), and things like pots/infusions/tinctures.
