Unexpected Error (17)

I have been getting this error since I resubscribed and downloaded the update.

Error happens when I attempt to enter the world after the character select screen.

I have put in a support ticket and they have replied with the standard template.

Graphic drivers are updated. Windows is updated. Tried selected DirectX 9. Tried clean boot. Tried with graphic settings to minimum. Tried resetting to defaults.

All to no avail.

It crashed in both windowed and full screen mode.


Creating a new toon in a different location seems to work. Which means that the crash is happening when I attempt to load New Gridania. (Is that how it is spelled?)

Im at this same situation. but at the crystarium hub. So I just hop between two computer systems (laptop, desktop computer) and make ends meet. and leave the area it crashes me. I hope they address this problem with a patch in the near future..

Darkkrow, if you are experiencing the same issue, please create a new forum post with a System Report for assistance along with any previously attempted troubleshooting. To generate a System Report, simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Deleting local content did not resolve the issue.

The drivers are up to date. I have done a clean reinstall.

Have you tried disabling all unnecessary programs/remove all active overlays? This will prevent any other apps/programs from interfering with the game. I would also like to recommend making sure that any anti-virus software running has the appropriate exceptions as this can cause the game to not operate properly. If these do not resolve the issue, please uninstall and reinstall the game including deleting the locally saved data before reinstalling.
