    I have done that.

I would also like to recommend making sure that any anti-virus software running has the appropriate exceptions as this can cause the game to not operate properly.
What exceptions would those be, and how do I do that? (Windows Defender)

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Unfortunately, for assistance in updating or changing the settings in Windows Defender, you would have to contact Microsoft Support.

That is impossibly vague. How can I make the appropriate exceptions for FF14 if you don't tell me what they are.

Good morning and thank you for the reply.

Snowdove, can you try turning off any' Fullscreen Optimizations'. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.

There are multiple executables in that folder. For good measure, I disabled Fullscreen on all of them.

    No success.

On another note, I discovered what ports needed to be open for Final Fantasy XIV. I have confirmed that those are open.

Good afternoon and thank you for the reply.

Is anything over heating when the game crashes?

    No.

It looks like something corrupted during an update, so downloading the game (yet again!) solved it.

Because I'm stuck with an ISP that imposes some draconian data limits, re-downloading the game is a last resort rather than a first-effort.
