Unexpected error has occured, game crashes

I have been having a on going issue with my pc. Where it will close at random moments on ffxiv, loading the game, launching, in game, anywhere in game. I get the same error message which consists of: An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FFXIV (the date) and atidxx64 + XXXXX codes. Researching these I was thinking months ago maybe this was my water cooled gpu having a issue. I swapped to dx9 and the crash would persist in a some what different manner. Since this has started I have hardly played at all.

What has been tried:

DDU of all graphics drivers
Rolling back to old drivers
DDU and updating to newest drivers
Fresh Windows install from Microsoft

The gpu is a Radeon VII
Cpu Ryzen 3900x


The gpu was swap temporally with a AMD RX580
And windows 10 was installed fresh from Microsoft on a new SSD.
The pc did not crash at first, I play at 1440p so I replaced the rx580 with a 5700xt I know works perfectly.

The issue returns in the exact same way.

: l Do I try a different brand card here? Do I stop playing? Every single other game plays perfectly on this pc for hours on end. Division 2 in all api's, Vulkan, dx12. World war Z in all api's, Vermintide 2, Totalwar three kingdoms, DMC 5.
Everything I can play on this new install of windows that I was hoping would solve my issue. Except FFXIV still : ( please halp

I get the same thing. Just Unexpected Error (17). Nothing else.


Contacted support. They just say reinstall the game, reinstall DirectX, clean boot.


Still crashes.

Game currently unplayable. Sub runs out in 25 days. We'll see if they can fix it before then.

Yeas, I wish installing the game and windows and Dx with different hardware helped but its still happening without no support. I am subbed and have been without being able to play : ( I understand you
