Discouraged by Que timers

I've been mostly lucky in my FFXIV career, since I main White Mage and this wasn't an issue and was able to level my Summoner to 80 by using Scholar. One of my other highest classes is Astrologian, also a Healer.

I've been trying to level my Dragoon (presently 68) and boy is it a chore. Early on I would work on my hunting log to distract me while I wait, but now I don't have that and there isn't much content I'm interested in while waiting. I don't enjoy crafting, and there is only so much I can do in my apartment.

Last night, Friday night after work - so prime time, I tried to do MSQ Roulette. It said 20 minutes. Okay whatever. This is already a huge time sink but I decided to just play a mobile game on my iPad while I wait. Well 20 minutes comes and I'm still 19th in line. 30 minutes come and I'm 11th. I log out.

I've had similar experiences trying to que for whatever the highest dungeon is (for me, Doma Castle right now). I know this isn't popular content but I would hope there are 3 other people in the grand scheme of the game that might que for this in less than a half hour.

Levelling roulette is okay but also can take up to 20 minutes.

It's really easy to get discouraged when half my free gaming time, or more, is taken up by waiting. I know other people posted in the past that they do housework, watch Netflix, etc. while waiting but this is a bit ridiculous.

If you can't wait for the queue (not que) times related to DPS classes, you'll have to just stick with healing and tanking.
With how popular dps classes seem to be, the queues are going to be long, there's no real getting around that.

In ShB dungeons you can use trusts for an instance queue regardless of your class role. So there's that to look forward to at least.

MSQ Roulette almost always takes longer than advertised due to it being unpopular. About the only advice that can be offered is to bring something else to keep you occupied while you wait. I recommend a good book.

Make friends with a tank or healer, party up with them, boom no more waiting.

I can understand the frustration, truly, but it simply is what it is; the long DPS queue has been a thing since before the Cataclysm. But it does raise a question on my end; when one queues for a specific duty, is that not given priority when others are queueing randomly within the same level range of that duty?

There's something of a lull at the moment since a lot of people are waiting for the next content patch to go live. You're also on a data centre comprised of a significant number of players who do not actively engage PvE content - I was on Balmung myself up until three months ago and left after struggling to find people to do content with. The server shuffle saw a lot of PvE focused players depart Crystal, unfortunately.

OP, what's stopping you from doing other exp rewarding content while waiting in the queue?

Since you're level 68 on your DRG, there's the Ananta and Kojin beast tribe dailies that you could do for exp, along with the Stormblood daily hunt marks. And if you run out of those before finishing your roulettes, doing FATEs (with the help of your chocobo) is an option too.

If you are a Dps just do Potd/HoH, both have exterme fast Times for DDs and give nice xp.

Ah yes. You are symptomatic of 'spoiled by the healer/tank queue times' syndrome. Netflix and youtube relieve the symptoms, but don't cure the ailment. Like the common cold or influenza, you pretty much have to sweat it out.
