Does the MSQ contain underwater parts?

Odd question, but does the MSQ ever require you to go umderwater?

Some quick searching informed me that there are underwater areas, but since I am trying to avoid storyline spoilers I can't confirm if these areas are just optional/side-quest areas or part of the MSQ.

Much like the person in the below post, my wife is absolutely terrified of sharks and WILL NOT go underwater (even in a game).

How far are you in the story? I know there's some Shadowbringers content in water. There is also quite a huge chunk in Stormblood as well.

There is an underwater portion in Stormblood’s MSQ (around level ~62 or so), and there are parts of Shadowbringers MSQ that are underwater (around level ~63). I think the Stormblood underwater parts are longer and more aplenty compared to Shadowbringers—the latter is very brief.

They were pushed very hard in Stormblood since the big flying equivalent they wanted to do was diving. It doesn't seem huge compared to flying but it was a part of their marketing routine.

It's very big in MSQ around 63, and it does return later on to unlock a specific dungeon in Stormblood much later on. However you will get most mileage of the underwater elements doing the Beast Tribes, and the sidequest to unlock the lvl 63 dungeon .

Just to clarify, there's a shark in each of the two "ocean swimming" zones BUT it's harmless. It just swims along the surface on a preset path and you can swim alongside it without any response.

Most of the underwater section is spent deeper in the water where you won't encounter it. There aren't any enemies in underwater areas.

Poor sharks. You're more likely to be bitten at the surface (where you are merely a food-ish shaped silhouette) rather than underwater (where you don't really look like typical underwater food) anyway.

It may take some testing but I believe if you lower your graphic settings it will disable rendering of fish and sharks in the water areas. Perhaps your wife can try that?

I believe there is a part in Stormblood where you have to go underwater to unlock one of its dungeons. Rather not spoil the dungeon name o/

Theres a chance she wont enjoy the level 62-63 section of the MSQ. The zone where it takes place(The Ruby Sea) is basically a handful of islands and a little bit of coastline. The southern section of the zone(volcanic island) has a few "flying shark" style enemies hovering above the shallow water(they arent on any of the other islands). The story gives you the ability to dive for a couple quests, and there is a bit of underwater travel required to finish the story quests. If it helps, the game engine doesnt support fighting and swimming at the same time - so underwater doesnt include any combat. Though as the others stated, there are a few literally harmless shark sprites swimming about.

The shark area is avoidable, and the underwater swimming sections are minimal. Something she could maybe let you do for her if she couldnt handle it(the required underwater swimming accounts for less then 30 minutes if i remember right).

Edit: Forgot to mention. The optional level 63 dungeon. The quest to unlock it requires swimming to a deep part of the sea. The dungeon itself doesnt really feature swimming, but the unlock quest does.

While it is actually save under water with no enemies attacking you when you are diving, she should also know that there are actually sharks as enemies in some dungeons / on the surface. If she' running treasure maps she may end up with some shark attacks too.
