I'd like to point out that a person leaving a duty, any duty, is not abuse.
Are sprouts who don't listen and ignore the mentor abusing them? It can't be a one way thing here. It's either both or neither.
Did I say that leaving a duty is abuse? I think if it consistently happens with a single mentor then yes, yes it is. They are abusing the roulette system and they need to be reviewed. But otherwise, it is not if you are like "Oh, they aren't listening I am leaving after trying for a while."
You can't judge or change that tho - people not listening- Like I get what he is saying tho. It SUCKS loading into a duty any duty and a mentor instantly leaves when they see a leaf. And I'm not talking about the extremes... I've seen them do that to DUNGEONS. I'll never forget when I was learning a healer and I mentioned this. The mentor instantly left and yes.. it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Everyone likes to blame the leafs and new people first, but it's a two way street like you said. Mentors have that rep cause the bad ones gave it to them. - Keep in mind all my bad mentor experiences are from normal apparently easy mode dungeons :/- In my ver limited expierence it's never the new players that are the bad ones... it's been mentors who mess up mechs, don't listen, have bad tudes etc etc etc. And the system serious does need a rework tho. Why defend a broken system no matter who is at fault?
I've said before, I wish there was an option for a mentor roulette that didn't include EX trials, with a lower prize or longer route to it.
I'm still very much the newbie in EX trials - and there would be the language gap as well, since I don't speak Japanese, the majority language for this data centre.
Of course, you'd probably still get people who abuse the higher roulette and fish for easy duties, but personally I don't want to be put in the situation where I have to drop out because I don't know and can't mentor the fight. So that means not being able to do mentor roulette at all.
This is a great compromise thank you! Keep pushing this thread we want them to listen!I've said before, I wish there was an option for a mentor roulette that didn't include EX trials, with a lower prize or longer route to it.

In my defense I do say it's very limited expience. But it's context cause most people want to blame the leafs. I'm just saying it's not just leafs who do the things people are complaining about. Thats all.
It's not mentors or sprouts, it's the way the system runs in it's current state. Little incentive with little reward. No strict requirements leads to very little effort. No real moderation of the system from the start, leads to poor performance for both mentor and sprouts. Nothing to weed out the "I could care less" mentors, or the sprouts that are just there to cause havoc and hardship for mentors. No real overseer of what goes on within the program. It's all broken and needed to be fixed from the day it was introduced.
This is the problem we have when roulettes are forced upon players to progress MSQ (they should be removed from the MSQ in my opinion). Make dungeons and trials "optional" content that sets it apart from the "casual". SE needs to have some form of intro for the various levels of this content - maybe an idea for them to replace guildheists with something meaningful there.
POTD and similar does not help this situation - people learn very, very bad habits there that simply do not translate into real dungeon and trial content.
As for the Mentor system - yes it is by and large broken. That is not the fault of the mentors though - its the fault of SE for not bothering to expand upon Hall of the Novice when they should have. It should have been the go to place for intros to new levels of content - it should have been forced and not optional.
This. How many times have I had sprouts just chain pull and completely ignore chat in ex trials. Can't teach anyone in these conditions. That or I'll ask if anyone has read a guide, get met with silence, explain stuff and have them not follow anything for 30mn straight before some other mentor triggers (rightfully so) a vote abandon. The content shouldn't be unsynched but in NA it should be PFed and I definitely remind people of this when I get a chance. On the flip side, there should also be a warning when entering your first extreme trial saying "hey, this is content that is meant for when you know your job and role well, and understand the finer points of group play"
I've taught 7 noobs moogle ex in mentor roulette and got a clear. It took almost the entirety of the 60 minutes and only the echo allowed for the clear. They were in no way ready for the content.
I got lucky had had people who listened. Most don't.
With that said. I barely do mentor roulette anymore because I've started getting MSQ roulette and I hate it. Not sure if it was always like that and I got lucky or if they added that in recently.. But there's nothing to teach and it's just a huge boring time sink.
