It's often a rather thankless task to play the role of a mentor. The system itself is flawed though the game also has some very conflicting rule sets that risk punishing players for offering advice even if it's worded politely if it isn't wanted. Which is quite the predicament, really - people are signing up to engage in group content with complicated mechanics. The sort that can often require an explanation. So if people aren't willing to play ball and listen then it risks being a waste of time for everybody.

I've successfully led some groups through tougher content. In every case, people were willing to listen and learn. Yet that isn't a guarantee and sometimes it's obvious whether a group will succeed or not right from the very beginning.

Im not frieghtened to get extremes, you missed the point completely of my post, if I come into an extreme and theres even one person who doesn't speak the same language (which is very common on EU) the chance of clearing goes down so low that you needed bother unless there happenes to be someone else who could try and translate. I sign up to mentor roullete to help people, but if people don't want to learn, or cannot communicate which seems to be the majority of my mentor roulletes of late, then the problem is with them and the system, not the mentors themselves, as I said, I'm in favour of an overhaul of the mentoring system, but putting it all on the mentors just because you have anecdotes on people being very willing to learn is not doing any favours.

There should be a counter for how many times they just up and abandon a duty that way if they do it many times their mentor roulette becomes suspended. There should also be a report mentor function that needs to be reviewed so that if someone is abusive to other players as a mentor it should be taken away.

As someone who enjoys teaching people how to do a fight and learning as we go, it is horrible to see someone join in and say "Just do it unsynched." What great mentor advice! This is a major issue for a healthy community and the future growth of this game. Mentor status should be an honor and a chance to show your skills to help others achieve a great goal! So please FFXIV reword the mentor status again and make it to where being a mentor isn't just something to get a roulette and EXP. Make it for people who want to help.
Playing content unsynced is a style/preference. One that a great many people have. Just because someone does, or doesn't, have mentor status does not change this.

It doesn't matter if they know what they are or not. You can go in and tell them, and what this shows is that most mentors can't wait 15 mins to see if they can progress or not. If you can't be patient for that long and they (sprouts) are still trying with you and are willing to learn. If they aren't they will leave and you can follow suit. The whole point of this post is for the mentors who abuse it.

Also not the point of the conversation, I am happy people like to do unsynched content. The point is not to go into a group full of sprouts and say "Just go do it unsynched." They can word it differently and say " Maybe try it unsynched to try and learn the mechanics that way. If it is your playstyle don't get mad at sprouts who don't wanna do it that way and either work with them or leave.

You missed the whole point in, that's what I am pushing for in this. Regardless of how it is implemented.

Have you ever been in a mentor roulette with 7 people who do not(or refused to) understand English(or 1 universal language in the party) becomes a right nightmare to teach them when you cannot even communicate the mechanics, at that point the mentor IS DOING THEM A FAVOR and taking that penalty, the system is heavily flawed but it is not always the mentors who are at fault sometimes it can straight up be nothing they can do to actually help.

There's a reply function on the forum, use it or it will be hard to track who you are responding to. Regardless while the system is how it is, there is a penalty for leaving content without an abandon, and if people opt to take that penalty and leave, you are not entitled to that persons time, you can certainly argue that you should be and people should get their mentor status revoked for doing it, but that leaves the system open to abuse from the other end.

Sorry about that. And you are right you are not entitled to their time. And they are not entitled to get a mentor who would abuse them either. Which is the whole point of this post.

With my experience through Party Finder when trying to even clear something, it's generally a combination of those 3. And this is coming from an American.
