I honestly wonder if you have hardware issues or a corrupt windows install then. Cuz in the 6 years i've been playing this game, i've never had a hard crash to desktop. I had a few directx crashes once a month in heavensward, but I was running SLI at the time so I blame that.

No, I dont have any launchers going and I am fairly sure I do not have a corrupt install.I honestly wonder if you have hardware issues or a corrupt windows install then. Lemme restart this piece of schmidt comp and see if that fixes it.
For me it was fully wiping the drivers and doing a clean reinstall which seems to have drastically cut down the incidents, but I used to close GoG and Steam to improve latency since they often download stuff in the background, so I might go back to doing that as well... I've also removed GeForce Experience as some people have reported the error goes away once they stopped using it and its setting optimisation tool.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Are u doing runs when the crash happened? or in a populated area. it sound like hardware failure. have u check the temperature in the computer after the crash
Also what kind rig are u using in terms of ram, card and operating system 32 or 64

The seas continue to rise while the lesser moon continues to fall, and ilm by ilm, the world becomes ever more unlike itself, without the illumination of knowledge, we but vainly flail as specters in the dark.
Honestly, the freezing and crashing issues are why I still use the 32-bit client.
I don't mind having faster technology when it works, but...
I was having really bad DirectX crashes for a few months. Even a clean reinstall only temporarily fixed it, but I followed the advice in this post followed by a fresh install of the game and haven't had a problem in the past month. Can't say for sure that it's fixed permanently, but it seems to have worked for me.
No crash here but a very huge latency sometimes (and during 10-20 minutes). Since patch 5.18.
This happened to me last night about 5 times after I updated AMD drivers, I rolled back but the issue was still there.
I then restarted my pc and I could play normally for an hour then I logged out so can't confirm if the the issue is gone or not.
