In a way, it's like how FFXIV tries to hand the user everything on a silver platter, making the path between A and B as short, simple, and easy as possible. Ex. Can teleport anywhere at any time, Aggressive Monster Icons, no difficult battles on the way to the level limit.
I agree on the initial point; it's not about the difference between playing a perfect game and building an imperfect one, it's the difference between playing a game and finishing one.

    Other than that

    A) Battle would be be more difficult (Read: Interesting) if they bothered to make it more strategic, I've given various examples of how they can do this around the forum, not gonna get into it again.

    B) Screw you and everyone who thinks that aggro icons make it too easy; no one likes running through an area and getting one shotted and forced back thirty minutes worth of holding up/w because some monster decided he didn't like your hairdo and felt the need to convey the hatred it brought forth from a hundred feet away thus leaving you wondering why you're suddenly dead. No one. The aggro icons were a good idea and they better damn well stay.

If you like living dangerous, then ask for an option to turn them off. But by the time you feel that way, chances are you're already going to be an experienced enough player to know which is which.

It's pretty damn easy to tell which mobs agro anyways... if it looks evil, it's probably evil. There's only a few exceptions... Vultures for one. I was surprised the first time I got agro'd by one, since I was so used to them being passive in FF11. It was a fun twist of events but I thought it was funny at the time. Like ARoy mentioned, a toggle to turn them on and off would be acceptable. Then again, it's kind of ironic that WoW was never under fire for having visual cues that let you know if a mob agros or not (they had a red hp bar above their head, passive had a yellow one). The reason i say it's ironic is so many FF14 players are ex WoW players.

And in regards to the OP... I like ff14 because I've always had the desire to get in on an MMO from the start and help set the standards on how things are done. I've always been a year or two too late in games before, but thankfully I got in on FFXIV in time to join a shell that kind of revolutionizes NM fights. As more and more people see us, they adapt our styles of playing. That's what drives me... Being on the cutting edge of strategy. This game allows that.
