    a sensitive message :p

Excuse my english and excuse this sensitive message. I'm being more emotional thoses days i just lost someone in my family.

I'm working as a barman in RL and one customer recently told me : (in french not sure of the traduction for english)
" The trip is the destination, thats why I take the train "

What he meant is that whatver we want: working to get it is the real pleasur of life.

The distance between A and B is what make B different.

And for FFXIV : i don't want of a perfect game. Neither do you (I think).
All we want is to work together with this shared goal. Every little step foward will be a real satisfaction. And thats why i'm playing this game. If Yoshi and us keep working and playing we will achieve wayyyyyy more than a WoW experience or any other near perfect game on release.

It's really nice to feel that. I was happy when Yoshi decided that we would, togheter, take the train and enjoy this very fun challenge to go from A to B.

What I get from that message relates more to playing FFXI than the development process of FFXIV. I'd rather there be a game where I get to experience and overcome challenges. Right now, the only obstacle is requiring enough patience to see if this game stops being so lousy before some really great games release.

I like it. We're not paying anything yet, and we have a front row seat to see the game evolve.

That's a pretty cool way of looking at it.

Really, one of the reasons I'm sticking around (aside from the fact that I ultimately like the game) is that it's interesting to watch it progress. I understand that Square Enix should have released a game that was ready, but I don't feel burned. And if I didn't see its potential and think that SE were really trying to turn things around, I wouldn't still be here.

    Hopefully the journey ends well.

    no

this is not working, it's about playing!

when you play the game you need happiness during your way from A to B

that guy and his quotation is good but useless with our issues here

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.

The English phrase as I've heard it in the past is "It's not the destination, but the journey."

That being said, I disagree with its application to XIV. While it was nice to see, for instance, the introduction of a market search feature, that does not justify the game having released without it. I don't get a thrill of exhilaration from seeing Improved Targeting!!! (that still doesn't function well for me).

I enjoyed XI, and I really like the potential of XIV, so I continue watching the game's development and even playing it, in the hopes that one day it will be what I want, but as for the idea that seeing these improvements is itself a reward... That's a thrill for alpha testers, not retail customers.

The mystery man's message is about playing the game to reach the end, and about not just starting at the end.

In a way, it's like how FFXIV tries to hand the user everything on a silver platter, making the path between A and B as short, simple, and easy as possible. Ex. Can teleport anywhere at any time, Aggressive Monster Icons, no difficult battles on the way to the level limit.
