There are too many unobtainable items in this game.

Mainly mounts, but yeah there's just too much stuff that's impossible to get. Either it's behind the PvP wall or exclusive to Feast prizes, it's behind the overpriced Mogstation paywall or it's simply been removed from the game and impossible to get at all, like the Regalia or the GARO items (I'm still pissed off about being denied any GARO mounts because Squeenix could be bothered to properly balance PVP and locked me to Serpents when Maelstrom always wins.)

It's utterly ridiculous. Why do we need to have half the content in this game barred from being obtained just from playing the game? Is my $15/mo not good enough for you, Squeenix?

You know, you could play PvP anytime you want, right? I took a one year hiatus in the midst of the GARO event and came back two months before it ended and yet did manage to obtain all mounts and titles from said collaboration. Just because I actually put in some effort.

Besides - those rewards for different gamemodes are incentives for players to actually try out said features and modes. If you'd obtain everything just by being logged in, what even is the point of playing a game? You get gifts on your birthday and for christmas already.

To be fair, the legacy items are very few (Chocobo, Goobbue, Tattoo and Dalamud Horn, iirc) but I guess those should stay exclusive for those that kept subscribing at that time - and because it was promised and no one wants another White Raven Gate.

And that's coming from someone who would kill for a Dalamud Horn.

This is how I see the OP post:

'Why exclusive items are exclusive? I want them and I want them now!'. It's simple: if you want the mounts from PvP rewards, just play PvP, if you want Regalia, it will be probably obtainable on the Mogstation in a few months (as many previous event items). I do not see any problem here.

This is hyperbolic. You can easily get most of the mounts/minions without spending a dime on the cash shop. Go put some effort into getting what you want instead of expecting it to be handed to you.

Very few mounts are actually unobtainable anymore—that’s purely limited to the Feast mounts, GARO mounts, and the Regalia; which, with the Regalia, it’s likely the event could return to the game at some point. Since they’re about to host the Yokai event for the 3rd time, and they held the XIII event three times as well.

Those of you who have answered don't know if the problem is that you can't read or you are just interested in creating a straw man with what is being said.

No one is asking you to get the mounts just for the sake of entering the game, that's the excuse you use to ridicule something that's true:

Creating objects that you can't get anymore is a lousy marketing strategy, especially since in casual MMO games the collector's figure its important.

Putting rewards like GARO items for PvP so that people have a reason to enter is another lousy strategy. Instead of doing that you should ask yourself what is the game doing wrong to put that mode in such a poor state since it came out.

But then again, it's always better to put in two hackneyed phrases and call people lazy or trolls than to accept the bad things about the game.

And by the way, the fact that many of the best mounts are from cash shops and have those prices is not something that should make you laugh, eh.

This thread... anyways, I agree that things that are no longer actually obtainable could be annoying, but in regards to the GARO event, it is similar to those who work at jobs they may not like, but do so for money to buy things they DO like. If you hate PvP, but want the glamour, then PvP for it. Also, the mogstation items are not 'unobtainable' or 'locked' -- they are readily obtainable for anyone with the disposable income to purchase. Some people have the money to buy them while others may need to save a little to be able to afford them, but they are just as obtainable as anything else given either the income or saving (assuming one has a means to make money). The glamours on the mogstation and the mounts are luxuries - just as some can afford luxury cars and such, while others need to either save up or work their way up to higher paying jobs, nothing makes either things like Tesla vehicles 'unobtainable' since they have been, obviously, obtained by some.

TLDR: Yes, some things are gone but may be back, while others need to be worked for. Almost everything except the event items ARE obtainable given enough resources or time. And even the GARO items were easily obtainable by those willing to 'suffer' doing something they dislike to get something they like.

The problem I see is that it's locked behind walls you don't like. That has nothing to do with "actually putting effort in" (as in: She wants everything for free by being logged on - that's something you made up and hasn't bein implied by her at all.) I for example think PvP in this game is awful on many, no, all levels and if I would want something that is locked behind that, I am basically out. I can understand that the world is not catering around us individually, but it's still a valid complaint in my eyes, as it's only a virtual world and thus "everything can be made possible".

There was a game where you could only gather your final skills when you were raiding. I've been a Priest in the game but could never become a Bishop because the massive effort required for that was ridiculous. Since then I am absolutely allergic to rewards like these. You know, you could also rotate trough the rewards. That's like having a corporate event, invite all staff just to have a buffet with pork and then tell the muslims: "YoU cOuLd JuSt EaT it! It Is YoUr FaUlT tHeN!!"

Locking out people behind crappy/certain content is never a good idea.

The OP is the one being hyperbolic saying that “half the content in this game” is unobtainable. They’re also the one bringing up the “PvP wall”—but all of those, with the exception of all PvP mounts but the Ranked Feast ones, are still obtainable if one just works for them. Rather than complaining about the “wall”, why aren’t they trying to actually work towards what they want? They can still get all the Frontlines and Rival Wings mounts by putting time into it. They can even get the Gloria mount from Feast wins, as it isn’t a Ranked Feast reward (which I personally think looks super cool).

The only thing this really applies to is the Feast mounts. Which, there have been a multitude of complaints about on here in the past. I personally disagree with the Ranked Feast mounts being so limited and exclusive to the seasons; but that doesn’t change that the OP is still being hyperbolic in their post when they claim so much is “unobtainable”.

This game has always put incentives in content—even in content that “works well”. And I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. With GARO specifically, the mounts were incredibly easy to obtain. And the event was around for the better part of two years. It’s possible that it could return in the future...since they’re bringing back Yokai for the third time, and they have brought back other outside events before (e.g., the FFXIII event was held three times).

Issues with PvP game mode design is a separate issue from what you’re talking about here, in my opinion.

“Best” is subjective—I personally prefer a lot of the in-game mounts over the paid ones. Unless you’re trying to say “best” with regards to the cash shop mounts being double-seaters—though, keep in mind, you can still get a “free” double seater (two, actually) through the Recruit a Friend program (Draught Chocobo and the Amber Draught Chocobo).
