Is the "One Steppe at a Time V" achievement reward a bit cruel to put up?

    Hello everyone,

I am a casual PvP player, who always likes to pop in each day for the Daily Roulette. I really enjoy playing it every day and I try to do my best. Unfortunately, my FC members are not very much into it.

However, with this new achievement and it's fancy mount attached to it, I think PvP is starting to be less appealing to me.

Every day I do my best to try to get a win out, but it is getting very hard to achieve. I am lucky if I manage to secure at least one victory. On weekends, I may be able to play slightly more. During the week, I am lucky if I have time for the daily Frontline.

I don't think I'm a bad player, not the best one either, I would consider myself average. But I've never one 100 games in Frontline before, and I doubt I will get this achievement. But I really fancy getting that mount and most of the times you lose due to other players ( as said, I'm not a great player, but I understand enough to know how to win, I think) which is not nice at all.

Shouldn't the mount be tied to a participation achievement (Do Onsal Hakair 200-300 times say)? At least you know you can get a reward for playing this and not loosing the desire to play PvP.

It probably sounds like a rant, and you could be right. But after a couple of victories only, after 10 games, I think I needed to put something up on this board to relieve some tension. ^^'

    Auryn.

Not every thing in the game needs to be a consolation prize, especially in PVP. Work for your rewards and then feel the satisfaction of getting over those losses and reeling in those wins.

Some weeks will be better then others. If you are having a good night consider bumping some other game activity off and keep pvping.

What you really need to worry about is when will they start rotating maps again. It is going to make trying to get the mount extremely difficult if you can only do a game or two a day.

I think this is a problem, but not in the sense of it being too much or too little work. What I don't like about the PvP achievements is they specifically emphasize coming in first place.

The frontline UI, rewards, and achievements, emphasize who ever got first. Of course who ever got first place should be rewarded more (and you still get more for second than third does), though the fact it is not the same as saying x team won or y team lost and the teams are ranked has different implications. To that end, in the future, I should like if they changed the way achievements work to help better usher players towards a healthier mindset while rewarding their efforts. Like, for example, if first place counted as two wins, and second place counted as one. Thus the team who gets first still is rewarded more as they should be, but it better reflects the less granular state of winning or losing frontlines, without getting into some kind of personalized performance reward system.

I completely agree that whoever wins gets a bigger reward than everyone else, I guess nobody doubts that.

But in general, competitions with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place all have a medal system, not to diminish the work of the winners which is undoubtful, but also to praise the effort of those who go in and work hard. Sometimes, the match is decided in the last minute and it's neck to neck between all GC's.

I find it unjust to prize something only based on 1st position and back a juicy reward behind it. A medal system would be more fairer as those who perform outstanding will still get it earlier than everybody else, while the people who have less 1st positions will know that their effort will still get the prize on the longer term. I think it's fairer this way

Non ultra high end PvE works like that, and I would not qualify Frontlines PvP as ultra high end PvP(Ranked Feast is there for such reason).

In any case, thanks everybody for the advice. I'll try to be more patient and await for my mount that will probably arrive some time around 6.0 :P

The problem is, the moment you offer people the option to earn rewards by being lazy then it causes a trend.

Back when Garo was in full swing there we people in Seal Rock autorunning into walls to avoid being kicked, and wanted to claim rewards. If they gave everyone a reward (which they do through Wolf Marks and EXP already) that led to a mount (through an achievement) that issue would be magnified and the people who are actually trying to win have to work twice as hard. The ones earned through wolf marks have that same very issue early on when they come out.

Mind you if you have the patience these rewards can be earned very quickly. I don't play too often for Onsal but I'm actually 1/4 of the way there, and I know people who already have the mount due to dedication.

Frontlines is very casual, but it has those rewards for a reason. To promote competitiveness and cooperation, which now that Freelancer has been forced has been shown in strides by many of those top PVPers helping out instead of stacking.

If you're getting third and second constantly, you can look at a match and tell what exactly happened. That's what I did back when Seal Rock was in rotation and it helped me learn when to fight, and where to defend. You can always improve especially now with Onsal still being fresh to people, it'll help you achieve results that will in turn push you into trying more modes like Rival Wings and even Feast where those calls are made much more often.

One thing they could do is just put mounts on the currency grind. Say 20k wolf marks, or higher amounts if they raised the mark cap to say 50k.

And then the ultra grind wins reward could just be a recolor of the same mount design. Bolder colors mount for spending weeks/months grinding out wins.

Ideally you'd have a complete revamp of the reward structure for the whole game. A new objectives window which shows all the prizes you've yet to obtain and multiple goals / methods to earn progress towards each.
Some goals might be deal X amount of damage in a single match, earn X amount of KOs without dying, capture X amount of ovoos in a single match, etc.

you realize by winning matches for One Steppe at a Time you're also working towards other multiple pvp mounts? for example your GC Warsteed, the red ADS, the yellow ADS, and the Construct Mount.
