    Aren't you supposed to feel similar to other people when you're on a Job? Your role gets restricted so everyone knows what you can bring to the table and you can build the party around these roles. That's the entire point.

    Classes lost some customization with the ability reforms but it's still there, and when new classes get added the current classes will get a lot more options with their freedom to pick whatever abilities they want.

    I don't see why specs/talent trees cant be achieved by exclusive traits similar to class/job actions, similar to boosting a character via 11 style meritting, but with the advantage of being "equipable" so it can be undone manually with minimal loss and as not to completely isolate yourself into one spec. There was lots of ideas/discussion in the past about tailoring class traits for mutually exclusive buffs or choosing routes to merit them (e.g. give second wind a MP regen or a HP regen), the devs never really picked up on it with any responses.

    I always enjoy customization. But to be honest, there will always be the "best" set of gear, or choice of skills. And there will be elitists that only see that. They're not wrong, it's how they play. I don't like it, but I can understand it.

    And WoW was really a terrible example. Before I quit playing last year they had streamlined new player areas, chopped up the talent tree, and removed skills that weren't used in the 'end game'. It's really bland and only getting worse.

    Yep. This is why I say just let them do their thing with the job system. We've only seen one part of it and stlll don't even have the Job+Job combinations yet. Anyone that played any of the job based FF games would know there's a lot of potential to be had and why a talent tree really won't do much for a game like this.

    Oh, completely agree with this btw. Not a fan of the talent tree however.

    I have always considered both GW2 and PSO/U/2 to be MORPGs, there isn't much difference really IMO.

    I wouldn't mind some type of merit system etc. Allowing players to spend points to enhance certain skills. Heck, you could bring back AP, and award it for crafting/killing mobs. It would be a low number, 1 or 2, but you could get gear that increased this rate.

    Then, you could spend it on leveling up skills. Reducing cast time, increasing damage, etc. There are a lot of possibilities. Sure it's something else to "level" and this might not be the solution. But it would add to the cap. The question is would AP be class exclusive, or could you use it across all classes, thus allowing you to merit other classes while playing your main, or vise versa.

    The other question I would have for this idea is, would it start at 50, or start at a lower level. Really I don't know. But if SE is to do something, I'm excited to see what that is. They have such a rich history of different ideas.
