I missed them my first time through as well. Then, when they became unskippable, I realised that I hadn't missed much of anything (and that's coming from a player who focuses on lore & story). It's a badly designed section of the game—that is still confusing as all get-out unless you know it sideways and back to front—with a badly-told story that you're better off reading about. It only serves as a reminder of how much the game has evolved since 2.0, at least in regard to the way it delivers its story.
What will change in your life if these duties became solo? absolutely nothing, since they are totally optional and you probably don't do them anyway, the only real change will happen for the people that benefit from it, so what you are really saying is: "I don't like this roullete and I'm not gonna do it, so if I'm not getting the rewards, nobody can get them!".
