It is a bit funnysad, watching him go on and on with his monologue, while we just stare into space. He prepared this whole big speech, and we can't even give a grunt of acknowledgement.
At this point we may as well be /dozing, I don't think he'd even notice.

I miss it too. It worked well in that point. Is it weird that I miss the dialogue options Gaius used to have in Prae? When the cutscenes were made unskippable, they all defaulted to the "...." answer, but you used to be able to pick at a few points. It made about as much difference as any other dialogue option in the game, but it was still a nice touch.
There was clearly one intended response for the script and Gaius only really responded as if you'd said it - but I think some dialogue options like that aren't really there to give the player options so much as to have their character "speak directly" in a way they normally can't in cutscenes.
It happens in other places too, usually at key points in the story - the options aren't much of a choice, but it's dialogue for your character.

I seem to remember that he skipped the "glib" line if you told him that you fight for Eorzea, since the next line is questioning it anyway. But it's been a while.
The best solution will be to retool these two dungeons into solo instances, with MAYBE ultima weapon 2nd fight + lahabrea as a trial.
Barring the development time that would take the current solution is best. If you don't want to deal with the cutscenes...just don't queue. There are plenty of other options in this game to get exp and tomes. If you don't want to deal with the cutscenes, just do something else, anything else. Other roulettes, individually queued for duties, fates, whatever. It's super easy to avoid the cutscenes. Just don't queue for main scenario roulette when you don't have the time or patience for them.

I always wondered why it was like that! Was my silence meant to be glib? Now I know. Thank you!
It's always appeared to me that my character gives a slight cocked eyebrow. With the response it gets I interpreted it as WOL giving silent sass. That said I do miss the dialogue options. Even if it made no difference it gave a better feel of confrontation between hero and villain.
I do MSQ roulette every day, it's a nice source of experience or a lazy way to rack up tomes. I still think making it a solo or trust dungeon is the best choice for the game as a whole. What will change in your life if these duties became solo? absolutely nothing, since they are totally optional and you probably don't do them anyway, the only real change will happen for the people that benefit from it, so what you are really saying is: "I don't like this roullete and I'm not gonna do it, so if I'm not getting the rewards, nobody can get them!".
As it is now it's still a bit clunky. The fact that a new player is in there with several high geared players means bosses fold easily which reduces the spectacle. Plus the cutscenes differ in length based on client language so it's not uncommon for the fight to start with you still in cutscene. Some bosses are already half dead by the time some players get out of cutscene. Plus hearing the sound of Gaius fighting in the background while he's still giving his speech is daft. Same with Lahabread but that fight was always a bit of a lame duck.
This all makes an awkward delivery of the story finale for new players who should be the focus here, imo. They're the reason this roulette exists at all. A solo or trust version will go at the pace of the player doing it for the story (and if they don't care at all they can just skip) and be a little better tuned to actually be more in line with other MSQ duties. I'd actually like if Cape Westwood got similar treatment. That was a fun fight (if not all that hard) back in the day and now I just feel bad for Rhitatyn.
Us vets will survive without our roulette, it's not as if other avenues of gaining experience and tomes are all that hard, after all.
Beyond that what we currently have is the best solution for reasons already given multiple times in this thread and the many others on the subject.

I like doing MSQ roulettes. It's a nice little thing I can do that doesn't require a lot of brainpower that gives me massive rewards. If they decide to take it away it probably wouldn't effect me too much, but I do like doing it.
