How come the msq keeps using big words?

I'm not an english major so I don't know these big words. But omg can we all agree to chill with the big words. How come urianger and even the crystal Miqote use words like "puissant"? What does "by his most puissant hands" even mean lol? Do you want people to carry a dictionary when they do the msq? Because if you are you succeeded congrats looooool.

It's probably to make it sound archaic. I think it's cool to find out the meaning of new words.

LOL, sorry. I mean, make it sound old, like it's not in a modern setting.

You do not need to be an English major to understand the "big words". You just need to be normally literate and have at least some basic education - the vocabulary used is not that unusual. Oh, and one must not be a troll - I fear that is your problem.
Urianger speaks like he does because he has read far too many old books and picked up his speech patterns from those.

    FYI, "puissant" means "powerful"

Or, you know, add such "big words" to your vocabulary when you learn their meaning. Probably a troll, but I'll continue anyway:

If the character concept is one where he or she is extremely intelligent, a bookworm, and talented in magicks; the character dialogue would reflect the traits of the character. It would not simplified into layman's terms so a potential reader who may not have certain words (like "puissant" in your example) in their vocabulary immediately understand without a bit of thought or looking up definitions. A character more along the lines of an average person would be far less likely to use such words.

Or take Jacke in the Rogue's Guild for instance. People don't understand what he means half the time because of the terms he uses (which is pretty much just thieves cant, which was like rogue slang in the 1700s-1800s). At one point Jacke says "(...)But I warn ye: he'll talk the bloody wattles off if ye let him!". "Wattles"" is another term for ears, just as "puissant" is a another term for powerful.

You must not read too many books. At least ones that don't use modern speech, but even ones that do, authors, especially novelists are known to stretch out their own vocabularies so the adjectives they use to describe situations and emotions don't become hackneyed and stale.

I know most of your posts have been troll-ish, but this one actually has some merit. Not that the speech used is difficult to comprehend, but I can definitely acknowledge that the game does use fancy words that are far from being common. It does help with the immersion, but I will also say that people who do a lot of reading and writing used to carry around dictionaries as part of their book luggage for the exact reason you pointed out. They are now apps on our phones, so no need to add extra pounds were it is not necessary xD.

I bet your brain blew up when Neo talks to the Architect in the Matrix lol

That's why I use the japanese dub. It's so odd that I can understand better what I hear even though it's not my main language than what I read.

Thankfully, the over the top "ye ole' english" characters are actually far and few in between so it's not too bad.
