Hi. Please catch me up on housing drama, I can't believe apartments are "sold out."

So, when I left FFXIV 6 years ago, part of the motivation was my being appalled at how housing was being handled: Artificial scarcity, "Player side" market gouging (as opposed to fixed prices tied to reasonable and hardcoded gil faucets) and the idea of houses being demolished should one leave were all huge dealbreakers for me.

So of course I assumed that apartments were the silver bullet on all three points.

-Cheaper and reasonable, no player pricing: Check!
-Don't dissolve should you disappear for a while: Check!
-So clearly they aren't going to do the artificial scarcity thing, and have proper player housing where players don't gate each other from having one, clearly apartments must exist for the modern MMO market where people can and should be allowed to not live in just one game for all time, with one apartment waiting for every player and every possible player, so let's take my first million to Mist and....

So... how long has this been a problem, and how often do they alleviate it? I see a big deal was made about an expansion last October? Really? Months?

I'm on a server that isn't overflowing because I was enticed to it with Road to 70. And it's "full" of the lesser housing that should be for everyone. Is this... like... am I screwed?

Incase anyone finds this via a search or something, every ward has 2 sets of apartments - the subdivision gets its own set too. There could still be more players on a server then available apartments(4 current districts, times 21 wards, times 2 for the subdivision, then 60 apartments per door is just over 10k apartments), but no server is actually close to sold out right now.

The apartments are actually pretty poor feature wise compared to a house, you can't do any gardening, or chocobo stabling and the amount of decorations you can put in is quite small. then again, its only 50000 gil and if you are just looking for a place to display/dump the housing items you get from quests or rp or something then an apartment works well.

I think you forgot a 0 there my dear. Apartments are 500k, and free company lodgings are 300k.

I actually think chocobo stabling is better for apartments than houses, especially personal.

You get a chocobo stable for your house and you take up an item slot for something we barely need, yet takes up an item slot and is unable to be put into storage. All the while it gets messy even when it is not in use. With a really big FC, it is more reasonable to see people using the chocobo stable all the time, feeding each other's birds, and is in general a cute way for people to help each other out.

Apartments meanwhile all have a chocobo stable outside. It gets dirty over time just like any other, but if you get an apartment in an active and crowded ward, they are often maintained. It doesn't take up a precious furniture slot, something scarce with smalls in particular only allowing 20 items outside. You still often have kind souls feeding birds from time to time. It's always going to be there if you just want to change your chocobo's name or plumage, and you don't have to flush another 125k down the drain for it.

All in all I think apartments are superior when it comes to chocobo care, with the exception of large FCs. I do agree that the absence of gardening for apartments is a big pain in the tush, though.
