Sprint might be on cooldown for them.

Also if someone has activated sprint and taken off ahead of you, it is not possible to catch up to them until their sprint runs out - even if you sprint as well, you can only match their pace and stop the gap from getting any bigger.

I'm more surprised how many people don't use sprint at all in battle for dodging AoEs more easily, or to get into place for mechanics. It might be due to how sprint used to use TP, though. Maybe some people still just feel an aversion to using it due to that.

This too. I use it in battles all the time - I'm unlikely to have it available afterwards.
