I was joking. There's a whole heaping helping of difference between passively engaging with media and actively engaging with it however. One is generally accepted across the world, the other is a lot more controversial. Depictions of violence towards children shoot up ratings regardless, but in media forms where the player has active agency in such acts either as the victim or the aggressor those ratings tend to go through the roof into censorship or fine territory depending on the country. Not to mention a ratings hike which SE is absolutely right to fear as that's the kiss of death in several markets.
I agree with square on not implementing them for ethical reasons.
But I do find it pretty funny that square, the company that routinely textures and models the panties of underage girls is saying they have ethical issues with the simple creation of playable younger characters specifically. I imagine the workload of implementing all cutscenes, animations and gear to a new playable body type is probably more to do with it than their ethics.
Though in fairness maybe Yoshi P and the FFXIV team specifically do care more about ethics than some of squares other teams since player-focused content is more of a concern with MMOs. I could especially see the ethical issue coming up in regards to modelling certain gear sets on kid characters, that especially might impact age ratings and shit

Never gonna happen,i mean they said they dont wanna deal with law because some people would do some pedo stuff, and to lose a nice moneymaker because of it,meh
This may be blunt, but it's bad enough Lalas are adults and people see then as kids, we don't need none gnome races for people to gpose&Jackit to OK?
Oh yeah, I wanna see a MSQ cutscene with a bad guy trying to cut open in half a 12yo kid calling himself the Warrior of Light.
That being said, I sortof understand the desire to play something different, but I completely understand why we can't and shouldn't.
