I do not understand the reason for Trade Mentor

The changes with ShB to the mentor requirements have made Combat Mentor reasonably harder to obtain (and Mentor Roulette as well), but with the xp boost to leves and other leveling for crafting and gathering, it's even easier than ever to make Trade Mentor.

Must have reached level 80 with at least one Disciple of the Land.
Must have reached level 80 with at least one Disciple of the Hand.
Must have synthesized at least 100 collectables.
Must have gathered at least 300 collectables.

You can reach 80 without ever crafting. All you need is gil or a friend to hand you leve turn-ins.
You can reach 80 on gatherer without ever gathering, if you have more patience, by doing GC turn-ins.
The collectibles only need to have a collectability rating of 1. Collectibles start at that rating, so you don't need to know a single thing about touch actions to become a mentor.
And this very thin set of requirements is all that is needed to gain Mentor status, with the supposed responsibilities it entails. Etiquette. Answering questions. Helping other players.

As such I do not understand the reasoning behind making combat mentor harder -- but in a very reasonable manner in requiring players to have completed things that show they 1) are helpful enough to receive commendations or have been playing long enough to have accreted them along the way and 2) can actually play their class to complete the respective class quest lines (though the easy and very easy settings call this into question) -- but making trade mentor easier. You could cheese your way to 80 on a class if you get carried after buying a skip, yes, but at least you actually have to do the class quest lines.

With Trade Mentor you don't even have to do that. You don't have to know anything about:
HQ crafting
Desynthesis
Materia conversion or melding/overmelding or transmutation
How to earn scrip
Custom Deliveries
Legendary nodes
Ephemeral nodes
Aetherial reduction
Hidden items
Rare items
You don't have to have a single master tome
You don't have to have a single folklore tome
You don't have to have a single specialist


I do understand the value of the mentor bonus when partying, and I agree that that is a very good way to help new players and foster interaction. But I don't understand having a crown that signifies ... what?

They should have also made it where had to have all gathering and crafting jobs to level 80 and also done all the jobs quests for them plus done total 1500 of any type of collectables totaled up. They made it way to easy to be a trade mentor needs to have more of a challenge to it.

I think you should have to have certain master recipes unlocked, and perhaps certain achievements for items crafted unlocked. The system as a whole was well intentioned but poorly implemented imo

Why does it need to be difficult to become a Mentor?
Having done lots of stuff in the game does not mean someone will be any good as a mentor, and conversely someone not spending as much time in the game but paying lots of attention can be much more knowledgable and better at helping.

Everyone who didn’t emet new requirement for mentor is probably a trade mentor now. Lots probably don’t have any xp in crafting or gathering. Let’s them keep a crown tho So there is that just don’t ask them for help with doh or dol stuff as they probably don’t have a clue

As it is the requirements of becoming a Mentor has very little to do with what a Mentor is supposed to be doing, other than making it more likely than not that they have some experience with the game.

Look at requirements to pve mentors. You have to do all tank, healer, and dps shadowbringers job quests plus do bunch of dungeon runs and have tons of comms. Mentor is suppose to be hard to become and have lots and lots of experience in that field. Other wise why even give requirements to be one if don't think need a challenge to be one. How it is right now I could create alt and in one to two days it could be a trade mentor that's how easy it is right now.
