Would you like to use this item?

Would you like to use this item in this place that is only useable in this place on this spot and nowhere else?

Would you like to enter this place that is so far out of the way that the only reason you would be interacting with this thing in the first place is if you were trying to enter it?

These prompts have got to go, or at the very least make the default YES so when I'm spamming the confirm button I will use the item / go through the door.

Edit: I understand now. I don't think they have to go, but I do think that we should have the option of turning them on and off.

Yeah those prompts are annoying, and no being the default answer makes it doubly so.

Yes, I want to open the door that I clicked on to go through the door that I clicked on. No, I don't want to have to click it again because I clicked too fast and the door decided I must not want to open it. :/

She's referring to certain useable items, like keys for the doors in Sastasha, the Longstop, etc. I at least I believe so. I find the confirmation questions for such thing highly annoying and time wasting, as well.

Just be glad the confirmation boxes in Prae default to Yes.

And yes, the confirmation boxes need to go. There's no reason for them. And if someone is going to say "it's a technical limitation", then my response is "Tie the action to the 'Yes' confirmation and let us skip the confirmation box".

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I feel annoyed from head to toe everytime my decisions are disrespected by these "Are you sure?", as if I can't use my brain to do te right thing. It's too much, and should be used for things that have a REASON to Check their decision, as Relic Weapon deletion etc.
I would be more than satisfied if we get a UI window where we can tick every "Are you sure" pop-up, also with every pop-up to have a disable function with also a button to open the UI for pop-up management.

    ....why does this sound familiar?

Java Update available. Click here to either update or have us remind you again in 12 seconds.
If you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable. After all, you're too stupid to change the file extension back if things go south. Are you sure you want to change it?
Windows 10 update available. We're basically like Java, except you can't uninstall us.
Oh, right. I forgot, FFXIV is software, and software is annoying.

Well, I've heard a story about a person who decided to organize the contents of his system32 directory into subdirectories based on extension, and then wondered why his OS wouldn't boot anymore. Never underestimate the stupidity (or inability to draw conclusions) of people.

Agreed. There's a rationale for confirmations when the player is about to do something irreversible such as delete an item or use a hard-to-obtain currency to purchase something. But going through a door is easily reversible should the player find out they didn't want to go there after all. And the key items in dungeons have literally no other use and will disappear after the dungeon is complete. No need for confirmations on those.

Side note 1: I wouldn't mind having a confirmation if going through the door will immediately trigger a cutscene, just in case I'm in DF queue and want to avoid getting a pop while I'm in the middle of a cutscene with an incorrect class.

Side note 2: In Haukke Manor there are multiple places to use keys, not all of which are necessary, but I don't think you can ever get completely stuck with all remaining keys behind doors that need keys. So clicking the wrong door means at worst having to kill an extra pack of enemies.

90% of the game's prompts are detrimental.

In software, we use prompts not to assist users in what they are doing, but to avert them from what they are not. It is less about what they want to do, and more about what they don't, and what the consequences of are if they do the thing they didn't want to do. A good example is a program that asks you if you want to save your unsaved work when you close. That's really important and really consequential if the user thinks they might have saved but did not. Inversely, you wouldn't, for example, need to prompt the user for every time they want to give an item to a retainer to hold, because the consequence of this being an accident are minute.

Most of the prompts in this game, there is absolutely not even an inconvenience if they pick the wrong option, let alone a lasting consequence. The prompts are terrible, though honestly UX is FFXIV's biggest weakness so it kind of just goes with the territory. The team needs a dedicated UX designer to comb through the whole product from start to finish. You really can't just have your game designers be trusted with this. It has to be someone well versed on psychology, system intention, etc.
