Black screen once launched on mac?

I just bought the complete edition of FFXIV for my macbook air and was really excited to play it, but have unfortunately been having issues. When I open the launcher and log in, everything's fine, but as soon as I hit play I'm met with a black screen. The game's cursor loads, but that's it. I've tried letting it run for 30+ minutes but it stays black. I tried to contact support about it but haven't heard back. I'm not sure what to do and would appreciate some guidance!

What have you tried so far to alleviate the issue? Is the game allowed through the fire wall?

It is unlikely that there is any network or firewall issue.

Rather, there seems to be a persistent black screen problem with the FFXIV client on Mac laptops with intel HD integrated graphics running macOS Catalina:

There does not appear to be a fix for the issue currently, aside from reverting to macOS Mojave (or using an eGPU, which apparently sort of works.)

However, there is hope for an eventual fix since the macOS client does seem to run (at about 50% of the Windows frame rate, but it is definitely playable if you lower the graphics settings) on Macs with discrete (e.g. Radeon) GPUs.
